Students may run into red errors that prevent them from registering for courses. These errors can occur for a variety of reasons related to the student not meeting eligibility requirements for the course and can all be resolved with the appropriate override code.
Registration errors are not registration holds.
The academic department hosting the course that the override is for is responsible for entering the override in Banner.
Contact your Department Chair for information on who in your department is authorized to enter overrides.
Overrides are entered in Banner. Review the SFASRPO Override Guide for the steps to take.
Each override resolves a different kind of registration error. Review the table below for override types and the registration errors they can be used to resolve.
| Override Code | Purpose |
| CAPACITY | Override maximum enrollment capacity for a course section |
| CLASS | Override class level registration restrictions (freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior, graduate class standing) |
| COREQ | Override a “Corequisite” registration error |
| DEPT | Override a “See Department” registration error |
| LEVEL | Override student level registration restrictions (undergraduate or graduate) |
| MAJOR | Override major, minor, and concentration registration restrictions |
| PREREQ | Override a “Prerequisite” registration error |
| PROGRAM | Override general program registration restrictions |
| TIME | Override a time conflict registration restriction |
If you have entered an override for a student, but they are still receiving an error, review the Registration Errors webpage for details on each error.
Once you have entered an override for a student, they are responsible for registering themselves in the course.
Each academic department is responsible for creating an override request process.
Contact your Department Chair for information on how students can request overrides.
A registration error occurs when a student is not meeting certain eligibility requirements of a course or when a course has special approval required. These errors can be resolved with overrides to allow the student to register themselves.
A registration hold is applied to a student’s account when they are required to take certain action before being able to register. To lift a registration hold, students are required to follow the appropriate resolution steps and contact the department responsible for the hold. Students cannot register until all registration holds have been resolved.
Grading Procedures & Grade Changes
The last step in wrapping up classes for the semester is submitting grades. If you made an error with a student’s grade, there’s an easy solution! We appreciate the work that you do as an MSU Denver faculty member and we want to ensure that this task can be completed with ease.
As a faculty member of MSU Denver, it is your responsibility to oversee and uphold the rights that the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) grant to our students. Under no circumstances should faculty post grades or grade lists in public or via email.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Last Date of Attendance: Title IV financial aid program and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs require all schools to document a student’s last date of attendance. If a student earned an F, U, or UE grade for any reason, the faculty must document the last date of attendance in class. If a student did not attend, report the first day of class along with 0 (zero) hours attended.
If you have any questions, or need assistance with submitting grades, please contact the Curriculum and Systems Team.

Rosters are for faculty use only and are to be treated as confidential. Students’ identification numbers appear on these lists, thus they are subject to FERPA.
Up-to-the-minute, accurate class rosters are available for all classes in Faculty Menu. Faculty may print a class roster the day before or an hour before the class meets, and as often as needed throughout the semester. Under NO circumstances should faculty post rosters in public or via email.
* Note: Instructors should see class lists for every term they have/had a class. Instructors can use the term dropdown to filter the results. If there is no enrollment in a course, it will not appear in the Class List page. Instructors can contact their department class schedule coordinator for those courses with zero enrollments.
