The purpose of these required and optional events are to help you build your STEM identity through Competence, Performance, Recognition, and Transformative      Co-Curriculum Engagement.

Note: These events are not meant to create obstacles in your academic journey.  If you cannot attend a required event, please contact Dr. Liu ([email protected]).

BUILD Commitment

  • Meet with a BUILD advisor once per semester

    • Meet with Dr. Liu [email protected] if you are Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Environmental Science majors.

    • Meet with Dr. Niemeyer [email protected] for all other majors once per semester.

  • Meet with peer mentor once per semester
  • Participate in four required events

Tracking Your Events

For every event you attend, you do have to fill out an event tracking form.

This is important for two reasons:

  • It lets us know you attended the event.
  • BUILD is a grant funded program. In order to continue receiving funding and supporting you and future BUILD scholars, the NSF requires we provide student participation data on each event.

All requirements (meetings, event attendance, and event tracking forms) must be completed by April 29, 2024 in order to allow time for processing your stipend payment.

How to track your events with a Google Folder:

  • You must have a Gmail account.
  • You will be emailed a link to your personal google folder.  If you do not receive a link contact Lori Taylor [email protected]
  • If you have technical difficulties contact Justin Wu [email protected]
