From Biology to Business

How a physician is moving from curing patients to curing the system

Rene Bouzari is clear about her first love: It was biology.

“It was always my favorite subject,” Rene says. “I immersed myself in it because it was a way to unlock the mysteries of life … to ease human suffering and prolong long life.”

And that’s exactly what she did, eventually becoming a physician. “I came to see it as the most noble of causes. I loved helping patients.”

But when she moved to Denver in 2016 from Italy to be closer to family here, life began to change. She got married, had a daughter and felt she wanted to make more time for them, but also stay in healthcare.

“I feel like I’m being transformed into a healthcare leader of the new generation.”

Her mind went to administration. “Working in a hospital allowed me to better understand healthcare, so I began to see administration as a natural move for me to grow,” she says.

And as fate would have it, right in her new backyard of Denver she found MHA. “I made an appointment with advisors and the more I learned, the more my passion grew. I came to see the huge potential for positive change in healthcare and that I can be a part of that change.”

Rene says MHA is challenging her to practice healthcare in creative and progressive new ways to immediately and positively affect patient safety and outcomes.

“I feel like I’m being transformed into a healthcare leader of the new generation,” she says. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to help more people as an administrator, but if I realize my dream of becoming a CEO in a health organization, maybe I will.”
