Below are some common questions that are asked around advising, financial aid and transfer credits, in addition to a chart with contact information to resolve common issues.

Common Advising Questions

Who is my academic advisor? And how can they help me?

Academic advisors provide guidance to students on choosing majors, minors, concentrations, and other academic programs. They help connect academic choices to career planning, they help students understand academic policies & procedures and they refer students to university resources, as appropriate.

You can find your academic advisor and more resources in this packet of information for students.

How do I make an appointment with an advisor?

To make an advising appointment, you can use the Guide App or go to your Student Hub and select the “Get Advising” button. You can also call or email your advisor.

What if I am switching majors? Who is my academic advisor?

If you are switching majors, go to the academic advisor for the major you want to switch to, not your current advisor. You will need to use the Advisor Sheet or call the department rather than use the Guide App or Get Advising button

**For additional advising questions and answers, view the Advising FAQ.

Common Registration Questions

When I try to register, it says I have holds on my account. How can I clear them?

Visit the Registrar website on holds and follow the instructions for clearing your hold.

**For additional registration questions and answers, view the Registration FAQ.

Common Transfer Credit Questions

How do I know which credits from my previous instituation will count?

Use the NEW Transfer Toolbox to find out which credits will transfer, how those credits will apply to your MSU Denver degree and what steps you need to complete and when. Just note that this portal is an unoffical evaluation, so you will still need to request offical transcripts directly from the issuing school, institution or agency.
