Everything you need to know to prepare for the upcoming semester:
- Registering for Fall semester: March/April
- Registering for Spring semester: October/November
For specific registration dates and groupings, refer to the Academic Calendar. Your exact registration start time can be found under the ‘Time Ticket’ section of your Student Profile. Class schedules are typically posted two weeks before registration opens.
If you miss your priority window, don’t worry. You can still register during open enrollment. And if your schedule changes, you can adjust your classes later. Remember: change your schedule, not your goals.
Why Register Early?
Just like securing early access to concert tickets, registering early gives you the best chance of getting the classes, times, and instructors you want. Don’t risk missing out on required courses or key academic and financial resources!
Priority registration is based on completed credits, with only passing grades and transfer credits counting toward your priority.
Life changes, and so can your schedule. We get it—things happen. That’s why you can always adjust your classes later. Early registration simply offers more options and flexibility if you need to make adjustments before the semester.

What are parts of term?
- A part of term is the specific set of dates and deadline for each class. Some classes last the full semester (16 weeks) while others have condensed timeframes. Each part of term has varying start and end dates and deadlines.

- The “delivery method” refers to how your classes are offered at MSU Denver. Some courses may have in-person requirements, while others are fully online, and some are both.

Who is my academic advisor and how can they help me?
Academic advisors are your go-to resource for guidance on choosing majors, minors, concentrations, and other academic programs. They help connect your academic choices to career goals, clarify academic policies and procedures, and refer you to other university resources.
What if I am switching majors? Who is my academic advisor?
If you’re changing majors, you’ll need to reach out to an advisor in the department of your new major, not your current advisor. To do this, use the Advising website or contact the department directly—do not use the Guide App or the “Get Advising” button.
How do I know which credits from my previous institution will count?
Use the Transfer Toolbox to check which credits will transfer to MSU Denver, how they apply to your degree, and the necessary steps you need to complete. Keep in mind, the Transfer Toolbox provides an unofficial evaluation, so you’ll still need to submit your official transcripts for a final review.

How to View and Clear Holds
Holds on your account may prevent you from registering for classes. To avoid delays, review and resolve any holds well in advance of your registration date.
How to View Holds
Check your registration details by logging into your Student Profile. In the upper-right corner, you'll find Registration Notices, Holds, Enrollment Status, and your Priority Registration date under "Time Tickets."
How to Clear Holds
Holds can be placed at any time, so it is important to check your account frequently. Learn more about each individual hold at the link below, including who to contact to help clear a specific hold.

Tuition Payment and Parts of Term
- Tuition payment deadline is always the Friday before your classes start.
- Different parts of term have different start, end, and withdrawal dates.
- Each part of term has its own start, end, and withdrawal dates.
- Be sure to check which part of term you’re registered for so you stay on top of deadlines.
- Fall and Spring are 16-week parts of term. Maymester, Summer term, and 8-week courses will be different.
