Now that Spring ‘24 term grades have posted and degrees are being awarded, we wanted to reflect on some of the highlights of what our Accounting Roadrunner Community has been up to this Spring ‘24 term.
We kicked off the term by welcoming our new MPAcc students! Only 20% had an undergraduate degree in accounting – we’re thrilled to support their pursuit of lifelong learning and transition to an accounting career!
The Accounting Student Organization (ASO) was busy hosting multiple opportunities for our accounting students to augment their studies in the classroom by creating a community of peers and hearing from local accounting professionals. What a wonderful way to start and continue building your network!
With the help of our faculty, alumni, and current students, we hosted various virtual events to showcase how vast the accounting profession truly is and help our students and prospective applicants gain more insight into what it may look like to pursue a certain path.
- All About Audit
- MPAcc March Madness – Tax Faculty Spotlight
- So You Don’t Want To Be a CPA…?
- MPAcc March Madness – Accounting Student Spotlight
- MPAcc March Madness – Accounting Alumni Panel
- MPAcc March Madness – Accounting Faculty Spotlight (surprise addition!)
- MPAcc March Madness – Accounting Faculty Spotlight (overtime!)
Graduate Studies hosted MSU Denver’s 3MT Competition, where we got to see one of our Fall ‘23 MPAcc graduates shine in the November and February rounds of competition!
In an effort to meet our students where they are, we went into each of our accounting classes to briefly share upcoming relevant events, encourage that they take advantage of all of the student support resources available, and start the conversation about what may be in their future after graduation…graduate school!
We also hosted traditional virtual info sessions about our graduate programs for prospective applicants who may have missed our class visit or aren’t currently an MSU Denver student. These reached students at other universities, professionals not affiliated with MSU Denver looking to make a change or advance in their career, and even a couple MSU Denver alumni.
Our faculty were busy inside and outside the classroom. In fact, we had quite the Department of Accounting representation at the Small Business Institute’s Annual Conference with 5 total presentations by 6 faculty and 1 recent MPAcc alum.
As we neared the end of the Spring ‘24 term, a season of finals and celebrations began.
The 5 student internal auditors in our graduate-level Risk Assurance & Advisory Engagements course completed their Health Institute review and presented their findings to MSU Denver senior leaders.
We honored our departmental outstanding student award recipients at the College of Business Outstanding Student Awards (2023 – 2024) event. It was wonderful to get together as a College of Business and celebrate over dinner with 3 of our award recipients and their family and friends!
Of course, no end of term celebrations are complete without graduation! From our MBA & MPAcc Hooding celebration Thursday evening to a packed Denver Coliseum Friday morning at the Spring 2024 MSU Denver Commencement Ceremony, it was so wonderful to see our students celebrating this awesome achievement with their family and friends. You could feel the excitement all around!
As we reflect on the many activities of this past spring term, it has clearly been a busy season for our entire Accounting Roadrunner Community. Thank you to all who made it such an impactful term for our students!
