Music at MSU Denver Online Auditions

The MSU Denver Music Department online audition process is simple and easy!

Online auditions take the place of live, in-person auditions, and applications are accepted on a continuous basis. Before filling out the online application, please review the audition repertoire requirement for your instrument (below). Then, make video recordings of the required repertoire and upload them as unlisted videos on a YouTube channel.

Step 1: Video record audition repertoire for your instrument.

Step 2: Upload your recordings as unlisted videos on a YouTube channel.

Step 3: Complete and submit the Audition Application (below), including links to the unlisted YouTube videos.

Deadlines

Online auditions are accepted on a continuous basis. Students will be notified of their audition results within three weeks after submitting their online audition.

Online auditions must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2024 for private lessons in the Spring 2024 semester.

Be sure to also check the deadlines for the MSU Denver general application.

Step 1: Record Audition Repertoire

Step 1: Record Audition Repertoire

You are asked to submit three videos, each video being one of the bullet points listed in the repertoire requirements for your instrument.

Follow these general guidelines as you make your recordings:

  • Choose a quiet location.
  • Any video recording device is acceptable, but make sure the audio is clear and free of static or noise.
  • Place the camera so that your face, hands, and instrument are visible.
  • Make sure that you are front lit (no backlight).
  • At the start of your recording, please say your name and the piece you are performing.
  • Submit your best work!

Step 2: Upload Your Videos

Once your three videos are recorded, upload them as unlisted videos to a YouTube channel. Unlisted videos can only be viewed by those you share a link with. If you are new to uploading videos on YouTube, follow these easy instructions:

Instructions to Upload a Video from a Mobile Device (PDF)
Instructions to Upload a Video from a Computer (PDF)

After uploading your videos, be sure to watch through them to make sure the audio quality and camera placement are good, and that this is your best work.

Step 3: Submit Your Audition Application

Your last step is to fill out the online application, where you will provide the three links to your unlisted YouTube videos.

Post-Submission

After an application is submitted, you will receive a message within two business days stating that the application was received and that the video links are accessible.

You will be notified of your audition results within three weeks of submitting your online audition.

If accepted, you will be sent a form to fill out and confirm your enrollment in private lessons.
