Department Mission and Learning Outcomes

The Department of Journalism and Media Production mission encapsulates our core purpose while our learning outcomes specify what students will know or be able to do upon completing a JMP program.

Our Mission

To help students grow, excel, and achieve success through a relevant, high-quality, and inspiring academic experience. The department endeavors to stimulate students to illuminate the human condition through the written word and capture critical moments with still, video, and multi-media formats, in a diverse and dynamic urban university environment.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Promoting critical thinking and evaluation of sources. 
  • Developing students who apply Associated Press style guidelines to their writing.  
  • Developing students who create original works of reporting.  
  • Fostering the ability of students to analyze ethical and legal considerations in the field.  
  • Promoting an environment of professional, collaborative behavior.
