From a Single Semester to a Lifelong Roadrunner: Lincoln Yersin’s MSU Denver Journey

Lincoln Yersin

When Lincoln Yersin ‘85 (Finance) first arrived at Metropolitan State University of Denver, he thought he’d spend only a single semester on campus before transferring to the University of Colorado. But MSU Denver had other plans.

“I never left and loved the experience,” Lincoln recalls.

During his time at MSU Denver, Lincoln found an unexpected passion for finance and economics, even coming to appreciate math—once a subject he thought he hated. Beyond the classroom, he got involved in the Alumni Association and MSU Denver Foundation Board, planting seeds for a lifelong connection to the university.

Building a Career Across the Globe

Graduating in 1985 brought challenges. The economy was tough, and Lincoln initially took odd jobs while figuring out his path. Soon, however, he entered the financial services world, eventually building a career as a Wall Street executive. Over decades, he moved more than eight times for career opportunities, gaining experience across geographies and markets.

Today, Lincoln is a partner in a start-up wealth management firm in Castle Rock, Colorado. He reflects on what makes his work rewarding:

“It’s the interactions with people and building a successful business. Working with all walks of life and multiple generations keeps the work exciting and meaningful.”

Beyond Work: Life, Family, and Community

While his career has been dynamic, Lincoln emphasizes balance and quality of life. He has pursued several side business ventures while focusing on family, community involvement, and giving back. For Lincoln, the lessons learned at MSU Denver—adaptability, curiosity, and engagement—have shaped both professional and personal success.

“Focus on simple goals and make your journey fun and rewarding. Get out to see the world. Experience is the lever for real and sustainable success.”

The MSU Denver Connection

Lincoln’s story is a testament to MSU Denver’s mission: providing accessible, applied education that prepares students for real-world challenges while fostering connections that last a lifetime. From initially planning just one semester to a lifelong identity as a Roadrunner, Lincoln’s journey reflects the university’s commitment to opportunity, growth, and lifelong impact.
