Established in 2023, the Golden Nest Club includes anyone who graduated 50 or more years ago from Metropolitan State College of Denver, now Metropolitan State University of Denver.

The club’s purpose is to honor and celebrate the 50th anniversary of each MSU Denver graduate, recognizing their service to the institution and preserving the history, tradition and development of the University.

Members of the Golden Nest Club will be invited back to campus for an annual luncheon and access to other exclusive events, workshops and guest lectures.

2025 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner:
Lee Wimberly, ’75

A former Boeing professional and current author, Lee Wimberly is the 2025 MSU Denver Golden Nest Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Wimberly spent 27 years working for Boeing, applying his philosophy-grounded skillset from MSU Denver. He was hired in 1980 and was first tasked with integrating Boeing-developed enhancements into existing Cray-1 Operating System documentation. For the remainder of his career at the multinational corporation, he worked with artificial intelligence, utility management systems, distributed processing, manufacturing automation, airline customer requirements, and electronic airplane maintenance documentation.

After retirement, Wimberly wrote and published Exploring the Gap between Science and Religion. As he states, “If you are an atheist, it provides insights into what we see occurring in religion. If you are a religious person, it provides a solid foundation upon which to grow in your relationship with God while celebrating science’s discoveries. If you are not sure if God exists, it provides you an alternative to science and religion in making your decision.”

Since then, he has laid out plans for six additional philosophy books.

Wimberly graduated from MSU Denver in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a minor in psychology. He pursued higher education after motivation from his father, who recognized the importance of an advanced degree due to the limitations he had faced in his career after dropping out of high school.

Recently, Wimberly resumed taking classes at MSU Denver related to the philosophical perspective he is developing. In January of this year, he gave a poster presentation titled, “An Observer-centric Philosophy of Science”. He is currently writing a book with the same title.
