About the MSU Denver Symphony Orchestra

The MSU Denver Symphony Orchestra (MUS 3827) is open to any student on the Auraria Campus, regardless of major or institution of enrollment. The course meets Mondays and Wednesdays 12:30 – 2:20 pm, and generally performs 2-3 concerts per semester. If you play any of the string, brass, woodwind, or percussion instruments, then consider joining the orchestra! An audition is required.

Audition Information

For the Fall 2025 semester, the MSU Denver Symphony Orchestra is accepting video auditions.

To audition, please submit a video of yourself playing the audition requirements using the Audition Form.

Everyone except percussionists must submit an audition video in order to participate in orchestra, even if they have previously been a member of the ensemble. Percussionists should email Dr. Matthews to confirm their interest in playing for the fall semester.

Submit your Audition Form by 11:59 PM, Monday, August 18, 2025.

Audition Video Repertoire Requirements:

  1. Perform one scale of your choice, three octaves preferred.
  2. Perform the audition excerpt for your instrument. Please choose a tempo in which you can perform the excerpt confidently and smoothly:
