The Black, African & African American Graduation Celebration is an annual tradition sponsored by msu denver’s african american affairs council. In addition the council will be collaborating with the community college of denver and university colorado at denver to honor their graduates as well.
We encourage our graduates to reflect on their experiences at msu denver by realizing that they have the skills, knowledge, resources, and strength to be successful with their new endeavors. the program will consist of a welcome by senior level administrators and faculty, followed by dinner, and a keynote speech. Our graduates will be presented with a kente cloth stole which symbolizes very special occasions within african culture. Graduates are encouraged to where their kente stoles during the college’s graduation ceremony. Then the graduates will then have an opportunity to share with the group any thoughts or emotions regarding this very special time in their lives. Last the graduates will be charged by the director of alumni as official graduates of the Metropolitan State University of Denver.
This is a special time of year when our graduates complete their journey of excellence and begin their lives as Alums of MSU Denver, leaders in their communities, and role models for their family and friends. In support of your academic and personal accomplishments, the African American Affairs Council will host a Graduation Dinner and Ceremony to celebrate your academic and personal achievements. This special ceremony will take place on Friday, December 9, 2022, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Tivoli Rooms ABC. The theme for the ceremony is Mmere Dane, “time changes” and is a symbol that reminds us of the dynamic and transient nature of life.
