What is the Black, African and African American Graduation Celebration?

The Black, African and African American Graduation Celebration is an annual tradition sponsored by MSU Denver’s African American Affairs Council. In addition the council will be collaborating with the Community College of Denver and the University of Colorado at Denver to honor their graduates as well.

We encourage our graduates to reflect on their experiences at MSU Denver by realizing that they have the skills, knowledge, resources, and strength to be successful with their new endeavors.  the program will consist of a welcome by senior level administrators and faculty, followed by dinner, and a keynote speech. Our graduates will be presented with a Kente cloth stole which symbolizes very special occasions within African culture. Graduates are encouraged to where their Kente stoles during the college’s graduation ceremony. Then the graduates will then have an opportunity to share with the group any thoughts or emotions regarding this very special time in their lives. Last the graduates will be charged by the director of alumni as official graduates of the Metropolitan State University of Denver.
