Are you confused about the delivery type of your SLHS course?
SLHS Course Delivery Options
- In-Person: Instructional activities are facilitated in-person at scheduled times, either on-campus or at other physical locations.
- Hybrid In-Person: Instructional activities are facilitated through scheduled in-person sessions and either A) asynchronous online instruction, or B) scheduled meetings using live virtual meeting technology.
- Dual Mode: In-Person: Instructional activities are facilitated in-person. The section is combined with an online section, creating a learning environment with in-person and online learners. Students are not able to switch between learning experiences during the semester.
- Hyflex: Instructional activities are facilitated through: A) In-person class meetings; B) asynchronous online instruction; and C) online instruction using live virtual meeting technology. Students have the flexibility to choose between in-person, asynchronous, and live virtual instruction throughout the course.
- SyncFlex: Instructional activities are facilitated in-person and online using live virtual meeting technology. Students have the flexibility to choose between in-person and live virtual instruction each class session.
- Field Experience, Practicum, Internship, etc.: Experiential, hands-on learning that takes place in a location pertinent to the learning outcomes of the course.
- Asynchronous Online: Instructional activities are facilitated online with no required scheduled meeting times. Assignments and assessments take place on a specific schedule. There are no location-specific requirements.
- Synchronous Online: Instructional activities are facilitated online at scheduled times through live virtual meeting technology. There are no location-specific requirements.
- Dual Mode: Online: Instructional activities are facilitated online. The section is combined with an in-person section, creating a learning environment with online and in-person learners. Students are not able to switch between learning experiences during the semester.
- Hybrid Online: Instructional activities are facilitated online through both asynchronous online instruction and at scheduled times through live virtual meeting technology. There are no location-specific requirements.
- Self-Paced Asynchronous Online: Instructional activities are facilitated online with no scheduled meeting time and no location-specific requirements. Students choose the pace of their progress within the course with few or no established due dates.
- Study Abroad: Instructional activities are facilitated in another country and guided by faculty.

Once you are enrolled in a class, search Canvas for the syllabus and modules. Get to know your class schedule for the semester and know when deadlines are coming.
Not everyone has a devoted place to study, but it is essential you create a space that allows you to concentrate. Whether it’s a lap desk, a kitchen table, or a comfy chair in your room, focus on creating an environment where you feel comfortable to study and succeed and maintain that space throughout the semester.
A lot of MSU Denver students have jobs, internships, and families that require their time each week. Creating a schedule and holding yourself accountable to spend allocated time on coursework will help learning remain a priority.
MSU Denver offers a variety of student services such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, and advising, so utilize these offices and ask for assistance with any personal problems.
Do you learn better rewriting your notes multiple times or reading passages from your textbook? Knowing your learning style and using effective methods of studying related to your study style is the best way to learn.
If you find that you’re dealing with barriers to your learning, contact your professors as soon as possible to let them know the situation. Maintain good communications even when you’re not experiencing problems.
The more you get to know your professor, the better relationship you’ll have. Use this time to talk through specific questions related to the course.
The discussion board is the best place for you to interact with your classmates, so take the time to post thoughtful responses, questions, or comments. You will have the most success if you participate in the online discussions regularly.
Email/Canvas: Check your email and Canvas at least once a day. When you check your emails, reply the best you can – even with a “I will get back to you at X time” if you are too busy to respond in the moment. Email your professor if you have a question.
Teams: Look through any Teams general posts you might have missed and reply to any @ or direct messages. Decide when it’s relevant to reply with a reaction vs a written reply. Set up a time to talk if it takes more than 3-4 messages to convey your point.

Major, Minor, Certificate Declaration Form
To change a major/minor, catalog year, or certificate program. Students must complete this form with their advisor.

Petition for Overload
The petition for overload is for any student that wants to take more than 18 credit hours during the Fall or Spring semesters, or more than 12 credit hours during the Summer semester. Please note that you may or may not have to obtain signatures from your major’s Department Chair and an Associate Dean within the Dean’s Office of CHAS, depending on your GPA, the number of hours you have completed at MSU Denver, and the number of credit hours you are requesting. All criteria are listed on the petition for overload form. The student is responsible for enrolling themselves if and when their petition has been approved.

Time Conflict
Time conflict forms are for students that wish to take a class that may briefly overlap with another. Signatures from the professor, Department Chair, and Associate Dean are required, but only for the course that time will be missed. This may be for both courses, or only one. The student is responsible for enrolling themselves if and when their time conflict has been approved.

Late Enrollment
Late enrollment forms are for students that have been attending class since the beginning of the semester, but for whatever reason were not registered before the census date. This may include students that accidentally unenrolled themselves, or other specific circumstances in which they were not officially enrolled. One additional piece of documentation is also required: the financial responsibility form (to be filled out by the student). The Dean’s Office will enroll the student in the missing course if and when it is approved.
