2022/2023 

  • Coordinated two faculty trainings:  inclusive pedagogy (Dr. Lechuga) and migroaggressions (GITA)
  • Students formed a club
  • Created a poster highlighting the work of the DEI committee and student/alumni advisory council. Hung the poster in the hallway in Plaza and requested faculty to pass a flyer of the poster around their classes and post it in Canvas
  • Added DEI-related readings for faculty and students to our DEI page on the department’s website
  • Posted DEI-related events to the departments tv screens
  • Faculty added pronouns to department website
  • Distributed a survey to research and teaching assistants to examine equity in these positions and experiences over time
  • Shared with club advisors information from the climate survey on barriers to club participation (e.g., “don’t have anyone to go with) and requested the club to discuss ideas on how to help with those barriers
  • Crafted language for faculty to be evaluated on DEI for retention, tenure, and promotion, and post-tenure review
  • Recruited and reviewed applications for new members of the student/alumni advisory council to the department’s DEI committee

2021/2022 

  • Coordinated two faculty trainings:  how to have difficult conversations (Dr. Campbell) and working with LGBTQI+ students (Dr. Ropp)
  • Fall 2021- developed application for student advisory committee/reviewed applications
  • Spring 2022 – first student advisory committee was formed
  • Modified the student climate survey and conducted the committee’s second climate survey
  • Created DEI page on the department’s website
  • Developed and distributed a survey to research and teaching assistants to examine equity in these positions and experiences over time
