Undergraduate Student Employment Requirements

  • Students should be at least 18 years of age to be considered for student employment.
    • Students under the age of 18 who are interested in working for the Universityshould contact Human Resources.  
  • Students are required to be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours for each semester – Fall and Spring, unless it is the last semester before the student graduates. 
  • Students must also maintain a semester GPA of at least 2.0 to remain in the student employment program at MSU Denver.
    • A one semester of probation is allowed for current student employees who have fallen below this requirement.
  • Not all positions at campus requires work-study funding.

Summer Employment

  • For summer employment: Work-Study Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to receive a work-study award. 
    • Hourly Student Employees are not required to be enrolled in summer classes if they are enrolled for the fall semester. 
    • However, if student employees are not enrolled in at least 6 credit hours, they will be enrolled in the Student Employee Retirement Plan (SERP) administered by TIAA.  
    • Students must also maintain a semester GPA of at least 2.0 to remain in the student employment program at MSU Denver.

International Student Employment Requirements

  • Student should be at least 18 years of age or older.
    • Anyone under 18, should contact Human Resources prior to being hired.
  • Must submit a completed Employment Eligibility Form for International Students to the Office of Human Resources every semester they intend to work on-campus.
    • Form must be signed by the Coordinator for International Student Support from the Office of the Registrar.
  • Students are required to be enrolled full-time, 12 credit hours for undergraduate and 6 credit hours for graduate, during the fall and spring semesters.
  • They must also maintain a semester GPA of at least 2.0 to remain in the student employment program at MSU Denver.
    • A one semester of probation is allowed for current student employees who have fallen below this requirement.
  • For summer, they may work during the summer semester if they are not enrolled in classes. However, they must provide proof of enrollment for the following fall semester.
  • International Students will also need a Social Security Card.

Graduate Student Employment Requirements

  • Must submit proof of registration in a graduate program, including the number of credits.
  • Graduate students taking fewer than five credit hours during the fall or spring semester or taking less than three credit hours during the summer semester will be enrolled in the Student Employee Retirement Plan (SERP)

Graduating Student Employment Requirements

Students who just graduated are allowed to work up to one semester after graduation, for the same department that they have been employed with.

  • If they will be graduating in the
    • summer, they are eligible to work in the fall.
    • fall, they may work the following spring semester.
    • spring, the student may work either the summer or the fall after graduation, but not both.
