The Department of Nutrition Annual Undergraduate Scholarship application will be open to undergraduate students in Spring.

Undergraduate Eligibility Criteria:

• Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and
  cannot be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
• Have a declared undergraduate major within the Nutrition Department
• Be making reasonable progress in the major as determined by the Nutrition
  Department
• Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
• Have a major GPA of at least 3.5
• Have completed 60 credit hours at the time of application
• Be graduating within a semester or the academic year after the award is received
• Write a 500-word essay on a topic to be announced
• Upload a Degree Progress Report within Academic Works

The Department of Nutrition Annual MSN Scholarship application will be open to Master of Science in Nutrition students in Spring 2025.

Application Timeline: This scholarship will open on February 1st, 2025 and close on February 28th, 2025.

MSN Eligibility Criteria:

Dietetic Internship Eligibility Criteria:

• Be making satisfactory progress in the Dietetic Internship program as determined by

Application Timeline: This scholarship will open on February 1st, 2026 and close on February 28th, 2026.

The Department of Nutrition would like to invite you to apply for an MSN scholarship. Scholarship awards may vary from $250 to $2,000.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Been accepted into the MSN program (if a new student)
• Enrolled in at least one MSN course at the time of the award
• Demonstrates commitment to the profession and strong writing skills in the scholarship essay responses
• Meets Academic Standing Policies of the MSN program

This fund provides scholarships for students entering MSU Denver’s Dietetic Internship Program in honor of long-time, dedicated Department of Nutrition faculty members, Dr. Bruce Rengers and Dr. Cynthia Dormer.

Application Timeline: This scholarship will open on September 1 and close on September 30.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and
  cannot be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
• Have financial need as determined by FAFSA/CASFA and the University’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
• Be entering MSU Denver’ Dietetic Internship Program
• Write an essay of 250 words or less listing the ways in which the student has used nutrition to make the world a better place. Please include names and dates or organizations serves and programs in which the student has participated.

Open to undergraduate students who have declared a major in Integrative Health Care or Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation offers scholarships to Academy members at all levels of study. To be considered for Academy Foundation scholarships, you must complete the Academy Foundation scholarship application as directed on the Academy Foundation scholarship website.

It is undeniable that the cost of entering the field of dietetics is a HUGE barrier to the diversity of the nutrition profession. This barrier is one that Diversify Dietetics have had a goal to address and now they are thrilled to launch the Diversify Dietetics Scholarships and Grants.

The Colorado Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI) is pleased to sponsor three scholarships this year!  $2000, $1500 and $1000!  These scholarships are available to qualified female students who will be attending and are enrolled an applicable program in the Fall, 2025. Applicants must have a focus in a food-related industry (such as culinary, food science, dietetics, nutrition, beverage and fermentation, hospitality and restaurant management, animal science, agriculture, or family and consumer sciences) at a trade school, technical school, college, or university.

The POHA-Denver grant, received in 2019 and housed in the Department of Nutrition, aimed to increase diversity in the field of nutrition and dietetics. The main objective of the grant was to provide marginalized students the opportunity to continue to post baccalaureate programs after obtaining their bachelor’s degree.

Over the course of five years, POHA has hosted a Nutrition Diversity Conference (NDC) to educate nutrition professionals and students on the importance of health equity and ways to advance diversity in the field of nutrition and academia. The POHA-Denver team is excited to announce the proceeds raised from NDC will be used to establish the Department of Nutrition Student Emergency Fund.

The emergency fund will be an emergency stipend for MSU Denver nutrition and dietetic undergraduate and graduate students who are going through an unprecedented time in their life that may cause the student to stop or pause their educational goals. Funding is limited each semester and applications will be reviewed as funds last.

Funding will be:

In an amount ranging from up to 3 credit hours of tuition

• Provided to one undergraduate student and two graduate students
• Used only for tuition due to unforeseen financial challenges

All graduate students and undergraduate students are welcome to apply! Eligibility criteria for funding:

• You are enrolled in classes in the current semester in which you apply for funding
• You have not already received emergency funding from the University
• You have exhausted all financial options including financial aid awards and loans (they no longer have access to student loans to their degree)
• Must be a Nutrition and Dietetics Major, Master of Science in Nutrition, Dietetic Internship
• Must fill out a FASFA

To be considered for the Department of Nutrition Student Emergency Fund, students must submit the following:

• Personal Statement including:
  • Description of your current financial emergency and how this was unexpected/unanticipated
  • Description of other resources you’ve explored
  • Description of how the funds will help you during this current financial struggle.

Requirements:

• Applicant must be enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate credit hours when holding a teaching assistantship
• Applicant must be willing to interact with and establish a good rapport with students enrolled in the course for which they are applying to be a TA
• Applicant must be meeting Academic Standing Policies set forth for graduate students by the Department of Nutrition

Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship positions are also offered by the Office of Academic Affairs’ Undergraduate Studies program.

Requirements:

• Applicant must be enrolled in at least 3 graduate credit hours when holding a teaching assistantship
• Applicant must be willing to interact with and establish a good rapport with students enrolled in the course for which they are applying to be a TA
• Applicant must be meeting Academic Standing Policies set forth for graduate students by the Department of Nutrition

Requirements:

• Applicant must be enrolled in at least 3 credits hour of graduate nutrition coursework when holding a non-work-study funded research assistantship
• Applicant must be willing to interact with and establish a good rapport with faculty member and other Research Assistants
• Applicant must be meeting Academic Standing Policies set forth for graduate students by the Department of Nutrition
• RAs are not allowed to work on course projects as a part of their assistantship but may work on research that supports or expands upon a course project in a meaningful way

The Department of Nutrition is looking for 2 graduate students to apply for Summer Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) awards. The GRA are awarded to selected graduate students in return for their engagement with faculty-guided research or scholarship, and the assistantship will be provided in the form of tuition support/loan reduction to the student’s account via the Financial Aid Office.

The graduate research assistantship does not cover student fees. Student must be nominated by a faculty member (please reach out if you are interested to be nominated) and must be enrolled in minimum of 3, and maximum of 6 credits. There may not be any MSND/MSN course available to take over summer, so consider taking 3-6 credits of Independent Study to be eligible for this award.
