The Department of Nutrition Annual Undergraduate Scholarship application is open to undergraduate students from now until March 1, 2024. This scholarship is accepting applications for Spring 2024 and next academic year, Fall 2024 – Spring 2025.

Undergraduate Eligibility Criteria:

• Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and
  cannot be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
• Have a declared undergraduate major within the Nutrition Department
• Be making reasonable progress in the major as determined by the Nutrition
  Department
• Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
• Have a major GPA of at least 3.5
• Have completed 60 credit hours at the time of application
• Be graduating within a semester or the academic year after the award is received
• Write a 500-word essay on a topic to be announced
• Upload a Degree Progress Report within Academic Works

The Department of Nutrition Annual MSN Scholarship application is open to Master of Science in Nutrition students from now until April 1, 2024. This award is for Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 – Spring 2025.

MSN Eligibility Criteria:

Dietetic Internship Eligibility Criteria:

The Department of Nutrition would like to invite you to apply for an MSN scholarship. Scholarship awards may vary from $500 to $2,500 and will be awarded in the Spring 2024 semester! Applications for a Fall 2024 awards will open soon!

Eligibility requirements include being accepted into the MSN program (if a new student), enrollment in at least one MSN course at the time of the award, demonstration of commitment to the profession and strong writing skills in the scholarship essay responses, meeting Academic Standing Policies of the MSN program. Details concerning this scholarship are emailed to all enrolled graduate students when the scholarship application cycle approaches.

This fund provides scholarships for students entering MSU Denver’s Dietetic Internship Program in honor of long-time, dedicated Department of Nutrition faculty members, Dr. Bruce Rengers and Dr. Cynthia Dormer.

Application Timeline: This scholarship will open on September 1, 2023 and close on September 30, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Be meeting the University’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements and
  cannot be in default or owe any refund/repayment of federal, state or institutional aid
• Have financial need as determined by FAFSA/CASFA and the University’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
• Be entering MSU Denver’ Dietetic Internship Program
• Write an essay of 250 words or less listing the ways in which the student has used nutrition to make the world a better place. Please include names and dates or organizations serves and programs in which the student has participated.

The HRSA-Nutrition Scholars Program application is currently open.

Apply by 1/10/2024 for Spring 2024 funding. This application will also be used for next academic year, Fall 2024 – Spring 2025.

Apply by 3/31/2024 for the 2024 – 2025 academic year scholarships.

The HRSA-Nutrition Scholars Program is designed to help cover college costs including tuition, fees, insurance, books, computer, supplies, and living expenses while pursuing an undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition – Dietetics, Nutrition and Dietetics, or as an undergraduate student in the Nutrition and Dietetics Accelerated BS to MS program. Awards are available for low-income and/or first-generation college students enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits per semester) who demonstrate financial need through submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition to receiving funds to cover college costs, HRSA-Nutrition Scholars will participate in multiple program activities throughout the academic year.

As part of the HRSA grant, the Department of Nutrition offers undergraduate students studying dietetics at MSU Denver the opportunity to apply for the HRSA-Nutrition Scholars Program which can award up to $40,000 per student per year.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Must be admitted to MSU Denver as an undergraduate student
• Must be declared as a Human Nutrition – Dietetics, Nutrition and Dietetics, or Nutrition and Dietetics Acclerated BS to MS major
• Must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours)
• Must be a low-income and/or first-generation student
• Must have financial need as determined by FAFSA

How to Apply:

• Complete a current FAFSA application. FAFSA information is required for award consideration. Any application without FAFSA information will not be reviewed.
• Complete a general scholarship application. Students must first apply to the general scholarship application to receive access to the HRSA-Nutrition Scholars Program application.
• Complete the HRSA-Nutrition Scholars Program application. You will gain access to this application only after completing the general scholarship application above. As part of the HRSA-Nutrition Scholars Program application, you must thoroughly and thoughtfully answer the following items:
  • Please describe anything that you think would help you be successful in the nutrition/dietetics program and graduate from MSU Denver. Types of help could include tutoring/study skills, career advice or opportunities to follow nutrition professionals at their work, volunteer opportunities, advice on internship/graduate school/job applications, student clubs, seminars on topics such as budgeting or time management, regular academic advising, and/or anything you think would help you be successful.
  • Please describe your career goals after completing the nutrition/dietetics program at MSU Denver. Please include short-term goals (1-2 years after graduation) and long-term goals (3-5 years after graduation).
  • How do you intend to use this scholarship if awarded?

The POHA-Denver Diversify Nutrition Scholarship and Stipend Program scholarship will open from March 1st until April 30th. Dietetic Internship Applicants must wait to apply after confirmation of matching to the DI program.

How to Apply:

• Complete a current FAFSA application. FAFSA information is required for scholarship/stipend consideration. Any application without FAFSA information will not be reviewed.
• Complete a general scholarship application. Students must first apply to the general scholarship application to receive access to the POHA-Denver Diversify Nutrition Scholarship application. The general scholarship application is now open and can be completed anytime after your graduate program acceptance.
• Complete the POHA-Denver Diversify Nutrition scholarship application between March 1-April 30. You will gain access to this scholarship application only after completing the general scholarship application above. As part of the POHA-Denver Diversify Nutrition scholarship application, you must thoroughly and thoughtfully answer the following essay questions:
  • Are you currently an undergraduate student at MSU Denver?
  • Were you previously an undergraduate student at MSU Denver?
  • What languages other than English do you speak, and please describe your level of proficiency.
  • Are you a first-generation college student?
  • Why do you think diversity is needed in the nutrition and dietetics profession?
  • Please describe how you could contribute to enhancing diversity within the nutrition graduate programs at MSU Denver and within the nutrition and dietetics profession.
  • Describe your cultural life experiences and how they align with the goals and objectives of the POHA-Denver grant.
  • How do you intend to use this scholarship if awarded?
  • If you were a POHA scholar previously, what would you hope to gain from another year as a POHA scholar?
• The POHA-Denver grant provides both scholarship and stipend opportunities for students. POHA-Denver Diversify Nutrition stipends are tied to graduate research assistant positions in the Department of Nutrition. Research assistants provide support for study design, data collection, data entry, report writing and other various research tasks. Research assistants must demonstrate leadership and self-starter characteristics. The Department of Nutrition also employs graduate students as teaching assistants but through another application avenue. Graduate research assistants for POHA-Denver typically work 10-20 hours per week and are paid a stipend for their work ($5,000 per academic year or $2,500 per term). The following questions must be answered as part of the stipend application:

(Please note that this application is only for POHA-Denver graduate research assistant positions. There is a separate application process for graduate teaching assistant positions. Current dietetic interns are not eligible for graduate assistant positions.)

• Please describe your research interests as they relate to the topic of diversity in the field of nutrition and dietetics.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation offers scholarships to Academy members enrolling in dietetic internships. To be considered for Academy Foundation scholarships, you must complete the Academy Foundation scholarship application as directed on the Academy Foundation scholarship website.

It is undeniable that the cost of entering the field of dietetics is a HUGE barrier to the diversity of the nutrition profession. This barrier is one that Diversify Dietetics have had a goal to address and now they are thrilled to launch the Diversify Dietetics Scholarships and Grants.

Requirements:

• Applicant must be enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate credit hours when holding a teaching assistantship
• Applicant must be willing to interact with and establish a good rapport with students enrolled in the course for which they are applying to be a TA
• Applicant must be meeting Academic Standing Policies set forth for graduate students by the Department of Nutrition

Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship positions are also offered by the Office of Academic Affairs’ Undergraduate Studies program.

Requirements:

• Applicant must be enrolled in at least 3 graduate credit hours when holding a teaching assistantship
• Applicant must be willing to interact with and establish a good rapport with students enrolled in the course for which they are applying to be a TA
• Applicant must be meeting Academic Standing Policies set forth for graduate students by the Department of Nutrition

Requirements:

• Applicant must be enrolled in at least 3 credits hour of graduate nutrition coursework when holding a non-work-study funded research assistantship
• Applicant must be willing to interact with and establish a good rapport with faculty member and other Research Assistants
• Applicant must be meeting Academic Standing Policies set forth for graduate students by the Department of Nutrition
• RAs are not allowed to work on course projects as a part of their assistantship but may work on research that supports or expands upon a course project in a meaningful way

The Department of Nutrition is looking for 2 graduate students to apply for Summer Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) awards. The GRA are awarded to selected graduate students in return for their engagement with faculty-guided research or scholarship, and the assistantship will be provided in the form of tuition support/loan reduction to the student’s account via the Financial Aid Office.

The graduate research assistantship does not cover student fees. Student must be nominated by a faculty member (please reach out if you are interested to be nominated) and must be enrolled in minimum of 3, and maximum of 6 credits. There may not be any MSND/MSN course available to take over summer, so consider taking 3-6 credits of Independent Study to be eligible for this award.
