About This Program

Swaying public opinion has never been an easy task. Nowadays, with the rise of the internet and social media, the job has become even more challenging and critical. Through persuasive strategies, content marketing and media relations, companies large and small rely on PR professionals to establish, gain and maintain a positive public image.

To kickstart a successful career in public relations, you’ll need to be able to conduct extensive research and draw conclusions from your findings, solve complex problems by employing critical thinking skills, demonstrate stellar written and verbal communication skills, and exercise grit to implement your solutions effectively.

The Department of Journalism and Media Production designed this program based on full-time faculty’s years of real-world industry experience and input from several respected working professionals across the country. MSU Denver is the only institution in the state of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region to offer a degree in public relations. The innovative curriculum spans writing, crisis communication, digital media and strategic planning (among others), and incorporates experiential learning to best prepare graduates to adapt to the ever-changing media landscape.

Facilities & Resources

MSU Denver PR students staff a PR agency that provides services to real-world clients in our local community. In many of our classes, we provide access to the tools and technologies PR professionals use in the field today and train students how to use these resources. This degree program also requires students to complete an internship as nearly all prospective employers will expect to see some hands-on experience upon graduation. Faculty work closely with students and the MSU Denver Applied Learning Center to help you find internship opportunities that match your areas of interest.
