About
The Office of Faculty Affairs coordinates a variety of functions associated with faculty life and academic programming on the MSU Denver campus. This office is a branch of the Office of Academic Affairs, supports the University’s mission and vision, and is dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarly activities, and service.
Major office functions include approving department evaluation guidelines; reviewing recommendations for emeritus status, leaves, sabbaticals, transitional retirement, retention, reappointment, tenure, promotion, and post-tenure review; implementing policies pertaining to reassigned time; and processing faculty personnel actions requiring approval by the University’s Board of Trustees and President.

Chair Excellence Award
Nominations are open through the 16th of December for the 2022-2023 Metropolitan State University of Denver Department Chairs Excellence Award. The award recognizes one department chair who has excelled in the role, advancing their program and supporting the success of both students and colleagues.
Eligibility
The nominee must currently be a chair and must have completed one year or more as chair to be eligible. The successful nominee is one who demonstrates success in at least one of the following areas:

- Demonstration of outstanding leadership
- Demonstration of curricular innovation
- Promotion of student success
- Overall contribution toward achievement of the College and/or University Mission
The recipient will be celebrated at the “Roadrunners Who Soar” event on the 6th of April, 2023.
Nominations
A chair may self‐nominate; and students, faculty, staff or members of the university community are welcome and encouraged to submit nominations as well. Please submit all nominations by the 16th of December. Please submit your nominations through the Qualtrecs form.
Selection Committee
The award screening committee will meet once per year to review candidates and determine a winner. The committee’s membership will consist of one representative from the deans, along with chairs representing at least a majority of colleges/schools in the university, and at least one at-large faculty member.
