Faculty Support for Community Engaged Learning

We help faculty revise or build CEL courses that link academic outcomes with community impact. Support includes: 

• Aligning CEL components with course objectives and CEL Student-Based Learning Outcomes (SBLOs) 

• Sample learning outcomes, course descriptions, and CEL grading frameworks 

• Structuring course content to meet the 33% grading requirement 

• Integrating reflection, partner engagement, and deliverables throughout the term 

To ensure community reciprocity and relevance, we support faculty in: 

• Identifying community-defined priorities across the Denver metro area 

• Connecting course themes to topics like health equity, environmental justice, housing access, and more 

• Learning about the assets and strengths of local communities 

Strong CEL courses are built on mutually beneficial relationships. We support faculty in: 

• Identifying and vetting potential partners 

• Facilitating introductions and defining partnership goals 

• Creating Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) or informal collaboration agreements 

• Planning for sustainable, evolving collaborations over time 

We offer in-class and digital tools to help students approach CEL with humility and professionalism: 

• Guest presentations (virtual or in-person) to introduce CEL concepts and expectations 

• Materials on cultural humility, ethical engagement, and professional communication 

Depending on your course model (direct service, group project, advocacy, etc.), we offer tools for managing participation: 

• Engagement logs and milestone templates 

• Volunteer Hub reports to track hours (when applicable) 

• Integration of reflection assignments as both engagement and learning verification 

Reflection is core to CEL and essential for connecting theory with experience. We support: 

• Designing reflection prompts and rubrics 

• Facilitating classroom debriefs or online reflection journals 

• Using the P.A.R.E. model (Preparation, Action, Reflection, Evaluation) 

• Connecting reflection to students’ personal development and course content 

To help faculty improve their CEL practice and document impact, we offer: 

• Grading rubrics aligned with CEL outcomes 

• Surveys and feedback tools for students and partners 

• Support linking CEL to your teaching portfolio, annual review, or tenure documents 

CEL helps students build career-readiness skills while making an impact—and we help faculty highlight that value. 

• Connect CEL experiences to Career Readiness Competencies (e.g., teamwork, leadership, communication, equity & inclusion) 

• Integrate reflection prompts that surface transferable skills 

• Partner with the Classroom to Career (C2) Hub for internships, job exploration, or alumni career panels linked to CEL themes 

• Equip students to articulate CEL in resumes, cover letters, and interviews 

Faculty Support: We also help faculty link CEL to applied research, community-based scholarship, and funding opportunities that advance both student and professional goals.
