THE OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS: IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The FAFSA for 2016-2017 is available now. Students are encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to complete their FAFSA. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is available to students and parents 2-3 weeks after the IRS has accepted your Federal Income Tax Return electronically (8-11 weeks if the return was filed by mail).

Short Term Loan applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2016 semester. Students must have a completed 2016-17 financial aid file with awards accepted/pending disbursement to be considered for a financial aid advance via the Short-Term Loan Program. For more information and to review the full eligibility criteria for the Short-Term Loan Program click here . *****Please note: If a student is enrolled in the summer 2016 semester, a fall 2016 Short-Term Loan application may be held for review until summer grades post, based on the student's current academic standing.

The MSU Denver Scholarship application for the 2016-2017 aid year is AVAILABLE NOW on the Scholarship page. The priority deadline for applications is March 1, 2016. Applications are accepted until November 1, 2016. May 2, 2016 is the MSU Denver institutional scholarship priority deadline; complete your FAFSA and financial aid file by this date.

IMPORTANT: Email is the official form of communication at Metropolitan State University of Denver. All financial aid correspondence is sent to students via their MSU Denver Email accounts. Check your school email often.

If you would like to speak to a financial aid counselor, they are on-call from 8AM-4:30PM, Monday-Friday. Individual counselor schedules can be found by clicking the Counselor On-Call Schedule.

This page is a brief overview of basic financial aid and scholarship information intended for students studying on the MSU Denver at DIME program.

Apply

Complete the 2016-2017 FAFSA which will require your 2015 tax information: 

  • School Code: 001360 – Metropolitan State University of Denver
  • Takes approximately 1-2 weeks for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to receive.
  • Once the FAFSA is received by our office, email notification about your file and eligibility will be sent to your MSU Denver email address. Check your Student Hub periodically for updates. Email is the official means of communication for MSU Denver.

*Please note that the 2017-2018 FAFSA will be available as of October 1st, 2016 and will not require your 2016 tax information to complete the initial application. You may use 2015 tax information.

Once the FAFSA is received, we may request additional information or Forms.  Please complete any additional information requested and submit to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships through one of the following options:

*Please note that some forms can take additional processing time depending on the form and time of year.  Also, you must have all forms submitted 2 weeks prior to the end of the semester in order to have your financial aid eligibility evaluated.

Awarding Process

After all information is received and processed, you will be awarded your eligible financial aid in agreement with Federal and Institutional Aid Regulations.  You will receive a Cost of Attendance as viewed below.  The financial aid awarded cannot exceed the Cost of Attendance.  You may use any financial aid received for only “educational purposes.”

  • ”My Award Information”
  • ”Award by Aid Year (Accept Award Offers)”
  • Select appropriate Aid Year
  • Accept “Terms and Conditions” than click the “Accept Awards” tab to review and accept.

Types of Aid

Grants: For DIME, students are eligible for PELL grant and FSEOG at the moment.  However, FSEOG is a grant that is first come first serve and is not guaranteed. PELL grant is awarded according to EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) range and credit hours, not all students will be eligible for PELL.

Scholarships: Our scholarship application is meant to offer hundreds of privately funded scholarships through one application.  It is highly recommended to submit this application as soon as possible.

Disbursement

  • Disbursement date for Fall 2016 = August 12th, 2016
    • Disbursement will first pay the tuition and fees. Any excess will be sent to the student via direct deposit or paper check. 
    • Direct Deposits take 2-3 business days to receive in a bank account.
    • Contact the Cashier’s Office at 303-556-4745 for any questions related to direct deposit information or refund checks.

**Note: if you are a first time borrower, your loans are required to be held for 30 days after the start of the regular semester.  This will not cause a service charge if the loans have been awarded and you will not be dropped from your courses.

As a financial aid eligible student, you are expected to meet Federal and Institutional policies and responsibilities.
