Submission Guidelines

Who Can Submit?

All MSU Denver undergraduate students are eligible to submit their articles or creative works as long as that work was completed while the student was enrolled at MSU Denver. 

Students who have graduated from MSU Denver within the last two years are eligible to submit work completed as an undergraduate student at MSU Denver.

Guidelines for Text-based Research and Creative Works Submission

Students must work with their faculty mentor to prepare any submission for consideration of publication. Students are also encouraged to visit the MSU Denver Writing Center for help in preparing text-based submissions.

The following are guidelines for submission:

1. Text-based submissions that are between 2000-6000 words (including citations, references, and footnotes) formatted using the style appropriate to your discipline. Please work with your faculty mentor to determine appropriate formatting.
2. Must include a brief abstract or synopsis of work that is no more than 250 words.
3. Please format any images, figures, or tables using the style appropriate to your discipline. Be sure to credit any sources.
4. References and in-text citations must be formatted in a style that is appropriate for your discipline.
5. Please indicate funding sources if appropriate (ie: Undergraduate Research Program grant, Dean’s Minigrant, Departmental funding, Provost Office grant, Co-WyAMP grant, or External funding).

Guidelines for Digital Scholarship and Creative Works Submission

Students must work with their faculty mentor to prepare any submission for consideration of publication.

The following are guidelines for submission:

1. Digital scholarship submissions may include, but are not limited to: short documentaries, architectural designs, technical drawings, scale models, artwork, musical pieces or performances, and dramatic works.
2. Must include a brief abstract or synopsis of work that is no more than 250 words.
3. References and in-text citations must be formatted in a style that is appropriate for your discipline. Please work with your faculty mentor to determine appropriate formatting.
4. Work to affirm that any secondary sources you used for a course-specific project meet academic “fair use” copyright guidelines.
5. Please indicate funding sources if appropriate (e.g. Undergraduate Research Program grant, Dean’s Minigrant, Departmental funding, Provost Office grant, Co-WyAMP grant, or External funding).

Reasons for Rejection

Reasons for Manuscript or Digital Scholarship Rejection or Revision 

Submissions are evaluated by a faculty editorial board; however, because the faculty editorial board members may not have expertise on the content of every submission, we count on faculty mentors to work closely with student researchers to ensure manuscripts submitted for consideration are of an appropriate caliber for publication.  Following submission, the editorial board for The Rowdy Scholarwill review the work to ensure that the work is original and meets our rigorous publication standards. The Rowdy Scholar is an inclusive journal and The Rowdy Scholar editorial board strives to have representation of research and creative work from diverse disciplines from across the university in each edition of the journal.
