The Data & Analytics branch of University Strategy and External Affairs is composed of three distinct, interconnected units: Business Intelligence, Institutional Research, and the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
Business Intelligence is the university’s analytics and data science team. They use a variety of techniques to communicate critical data insights, in-depth studies, and analyses to support understanding and decision-making for all members of the university community. Data & Analytics generally recommends that departments and programs focus on year-over-year growth, changes, and trends within their own areas, rather than directly comparing departmental figures with overall university student numbers.
Department and university populations can differ considerably in size, composition, programs, and other characteristics, making direct comparisons less meaningful.
Our approach is to help departments understand their own trends over time and identify meaningful changes that can support planning and decision-making.
Requests for email addresses need to be submitted through the Mass Email Request ITS ticket rather than the Data & Analytics Request form.

This service can be used to request a global email send or a targeted email list for outreach to students or employees. The process helps ensure messages reach the right audience, through the right channel, at the right time – while aligning with University policy, federal regulations, and communication best practices.
Census is an important University reporting milestone each term. The Census Date marks the end of the registration adjustment period and provides a consistent point in time for reporting on student enrollment and other institutional measures.
For full-semester courses, Census typically occurs near the beginning of September for Fall, beginning of February for Spring, and early in the Summer term. Exact Census dates vary each term and by course length, so please refer to the Registrar’s Dates and Deadlines by Part of Term for current dates.
Census is an especially important time for Data & Analytics because Census data supports many of the University’s official reporting responsibilities. Around Census, our team prioritizes data validation, official enrollment reporting, recurring institutional reports, and required state and federal reporting. Much of this work is deadline-driven and must be completed within established reporting timelines.
Because much of this work follows established reporting deadlines, Census and other mandatory reporting periods are some of our busiest times of the year. If you anticipate needing data during these periods, we encourage you to submit your request early when possible. This helps our team plan ahead and best support your data needs.
