Strategic Planning at MSU Denver
The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Analytics ensures that projects and initiatives align with MSU Denver’s Strategic Plan. Our primary goals are to advance student success, to promote faculty, staff, and student well-being, and to advance institutional sustainability. Our team values transparency, communication, and collaboration. Doing so helps us to advance data-informed decision making, drive innovation, leverage opportunities, and enhance effectiveness at MSU Denver.

What We Do
The Strategy branch is responsible for facilitating the implementation of the university’s 2030 Strategic Plan. This branch ensures identified objectives are measured, reviewed, and aligned with MSU Denver’s mission. In addition, the Strategy branch collaborates with MSU Denver leaders to uncover opportunities for adding value to the enterprise, and supports the CSO in assessing new and existing programs, partnerships, and projects that optimize opportunities with on- and off-campus partners.
Under the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer and in close partnership with the university’s Facilities and Finance departments, the Infrastructure branch focuses on the vision for MSU Denver’s campus development and transforms concepts to executable and fundable projects. This includes securing innovative funding, collaborating with Auraria campus institutions, as well as other means to meet the needs of the campus. This branch provides the university’s perspective in the greater Auraria shared campus master planning process and partners with the Campus Planner to develop the university’s master plan in a way that advances the university’s mission while activating the campus to enhance Denver’s urban setting.
The Data & Analytics branch is comprised of three distinct, interconnected units: Business Intelligence, Institutional Research, and the Enterprise Data Warehouse. Visit the Data & Analytics website to learn more.
The Special Projects branch is the hub for analysis and evaluation of special projects. This branch identifies and investigates new opportunities and reports out on the potential benefits and pitfalls. We collaborate to ensure that new investments and special projects taken on by the university fit into our 2030 Strategic Plan. Our office helps connect university stakeholders in new and existing programs.

University Strategy is hosting a series of open forums and drop-in hours to engage in a structured dialogue with campus community members regarding the AY2023-2024 operationalization of the 2030 Strategic Plan, as well as to share ideas and feedback regarding our planning toward implementation in AY2024-2025. The series is open to the full MSU Denver community (faculty, staff, administrators, and students). The Office of Strategic Initiatives & Analytics is proud to be hosting the 2023 European Marshall Memorial Fellows at MSU Denver in September 2023. This year’s cohort include professionals with interest in social policy, law, economics, and climate issues. Our agenda includes connecting the Fellows with prominent local figures to discuss issues and opportunities the city faces, exploring the Denver education landscape, and visit the beautiful Rocky Mountains to discuss water sourcing.
