Before we splash into the summer term, let’s review some of the highlights of what our Accounting Roadrunner Community has been up to this past Spring ‘25 term.

In January, we welcomed our newest MPAcc students at our Spring 2025 New MPAcc Student Orientation. Snow may have been on the ground, but we we’re all in the spring mindset! What better way for new students to kick off the MPAcc journey than meeting all sorts of Accounting Roadrunner Community members and hearing such invaluable advice before the term even begins!
This Spring ’25 term was all about growth for our Accounting Roadrunner Community, with our “How to spring forward in your accounting career” event theme. We hosted four virtual events featuring insights from our awesome faculty, staff, alumni, current students, and employer partners. You can check out a recording of the speaker portions below!

The Accounting Student Organization (ASO) hosted 14 meetings bringing local accounting professionals, recruiters, and organizations onto campus. What a great way for students to continue building their network with each other while learning about new opportunities and meeting local professionals (all with free food provided)!
After excelling in the MSU Denver 3MT preliminary round in November 2024, Laura Girdner crossed the stage at the Fall ’24 Commencement Ceremony and returned to campus this past February to complete in the final round of MSU Denver’s 3MT competition. Laura won the competition, making her the first participant from our MPAcc program to ever win an MSU Denver 3MT! She has since represented MSU Denver in two more 3MT competitions and presented her research with Dr. Andrew Holt at the Small Business Institute National Conference. Way to go Laura!

In March, we shared some exciting news announcing our new Risk Assurance and Advisory Center, led by our Director of Internal Audit Education, Jo Erven! Following this, three of our students attended The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global Student Conference in Orlando, Florida and two of our MPAcc students performed a critical review of MSU Denver’s Alternate Work Arrangements policy and presented their findings to senior leadership.
We couldn’t get too far into 2025 without celebrating the 15th anniversary of our Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc) program! In April we brought together 70+ current students, alumni, faculty, staff, leaders, advisory board members, and employer partners to reconnect, celebrate, and honor so many different members of our Accounting Roadrunner Community. Over the last 15 years, we’ve had 40+ faculty, 10+ staff, and 430+ alumni – what an impactful 15 years and counting!

Whether working on their own or collaborating with each other, colleagues in other departments and institutions, a current MPAcc student, or an MPAcc alum, our faculty kept busy outside the classroom presenting and publishing their research.
We honored our departmental outstanding student award recipients at the Spring 2025 College of Business Outstanding Student Awards event. It was a wonderful night to celebrate all of our College of Business winners along with their family and friends!

And of course, we wrapped up the term with celebrating our newest alumni! From our MBA & MPAcc Hooding celebration Thursday evening to a packed Denver Coliseum Friday morning at the Spring 2025 MSU Denver Commencement Ceremony, it was so wonderful to see our students celebrating this awesome achievement with their family and friends. You could feel the excitement all around!
As we reflect on the many activities of this past spring term, it has clearly been a busy season for our entire Accounting Roadrunner Community. Thank you to all who made it such an impactful term for our students!
