The concentration in Applied Mathematics is designed to meet the needs of the scientific, technical, and computer-based economy and to prepare the student for graduate study. - A grade of “C-” or better is required in each course included in the major.
- Regarding substitution of MTH 3140: MTH 3130
*and one of the following:*MTH 3110, MTH 3650, MTH 4110, MTH 4150, MTH 4410, MTH 4660 may substitute for MTH 3140. If MTH 4410 is used for this substitution it can also be used in the other categories. - Students who are considering graduate school in mathematics are strongly encouraged to take MTH 4410 – Real Analysis I.

Obtaining this degree, however, does not require that you obtain licensure to be a middle or high school mathematics teacher. This concentration also prepares students for continued study of the mathematical sciences at the graduate level.

- Plan to take the Secondary Math or Middle Math Praxis exam prior to student teaching. All students must earn the state-required score to be recommended for licensure. Note: MSU Denver can only recommend candidates for one license (secondary or middle) not both.
- Before the Department of Mathematics & Statistics will approve you for student teaching, you must have completed all the mathematics and computer science courses required for the major, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75.
