Department of Health Professions "AI" Policy

Generative AI Policy – Department of Health Professions

As healthcare delivery continues to evolve through data-driven and technologically advanced practices, the Department of Health Professions is committed to preparing students with the skills needed to navigate these changes. Artificial Intelligence (AI), including generative AI tools, is increasingly integrated into professional environments, healthcare included. To ensure ethical and responsible use, students must build both technical proficiency and critical thinking skills.

The Department’s policy on generative AI use in coursework is as follows:

Permitted Use: AI tools may be encouraged, allowed, or prohibited depending on the specific course and assignment. Instructors will clearly communicate expectations regarding AI use.

Disclosure Requirement: When AI tools are used, students must indicate their use through accurate citation or description.

Accountability: If AI is used in ways not permitted for a given assignment, students may be asked to explain and defend their work to the instructor.

This policy is designed to support thoughtful engagement with emerging technologies while maintaining academic integrity and professional standards.

In creating submissions, generative AI may be used in specific parts of the coursework.

  • Help in generating an outline for a piece of writing.
  • Getting feedback and editing help on your original writing.

The following assignments should be completed without the use of generative AI.

  • Reflection essays
  • Responding to classmates in a discussion forum
  • Answering questions on any quiz, test or exam.

As a reminder, the use of generative AI in these cases will be treated as possible violations of academic integrity, and students will be asked to defend and explain their work.
