Placement Site Opportunities

Join the effort to strengthen Colorado’s mental health workforce by becoming a placement site for program participants working toward clinical licensure.

What Does It Mean to Be a Placement Site?

Participating sites employ full-time program candidates who hold a master’s degree and are pursuing clinical licensure. These positions can be newly created or fill existing vacancies, enabling candidates to gain the necessary clinical experience while serving communities in need.

Benefits and Eligibility for Placement Sites

Benefits

  • Funding Support: Sites receive direct funding to offset portions of salary, supervision costs, and license application fees.
  • Supervision and Exam Resources: Access to virtual supervision services via Motivo and licensure exam support through AATBS ensures candidates’ success.
  • Enhanced Workforce Capacity: Candidates are supported through resources, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible organizations must be one of the following:

  • Academic medical institution
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)
  • Community health care clinic
  • Other nonprofit mental health providers
  • Health care systems (preference given to nonprofit organizations)

Program Requirements for Placement Sites

  1. Recruit and Retain Qualified Employees:
    1. Candidates must hold a master’s or doctorate degree in mental health-related fields such as counseling, social work, or substance use counseling.
    2. Candidates must be licensed at the associate level, if required, to begin accruing clinical hours.
  2. Provide Adequate Compensation and Benefits:
    1. Sites must offer a minimum annual salary as required by the program and provide health insurance options to full-time employees.
  3. Ensure a Supportive Workplace:
    1. Provide mentorship, professional development, and time to participate in program meetings and trainings.
  4. Collaborate and Report:
    1. Submit quarterly programmatic and impact data.
    2. Participate in statewide and national convenings to share learnings and recommendations.

Program Funding Details

  • Monthly Payments: Placement sites receive monthly payments for each employed candidate through September 2025. Payment amounts depend on the number of candidates and whether the site provides clinical supervision or uses virtual supervision via Motivo.
  • Program Support: The National Council and partners minimize administrative burdens and provide clear reporting requirements.

Application Criteria for Placement Sites

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Readiness: Capacity to fully participate in and meet program requirements.
  • Equity and Inclusion: Demonstrated support for employees from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, as well as LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Retention Support: Resources such as health insurance, tuition or mileage reimbursement, and professional development opportunities.
  • Commitment to Workforce Development: A shared vision to advance the mental health and substance use treatment workforce.
