Latinx Heritage Month Events
September 16th: Chicanx Studies Bienvenidos Fall Pachanga
Time: 2PM - 4PM.
Location: 9th St. Park
"Come celebrate the 2019-2020 school year and have lunch with our faculty, staff, students and new chair."
September 25th: Hot Topic "Immigration"
Time: 12:30PM - 2PM.
Location: Tivoli Multicultural Student Lounge
"The Hot Topics series addresses current events and headline news in an open forum. The topics for these events are chosen and facilitated by students. It’s a lunch and learn, so enjoy free lunch while you engage in a conversation about trending and/or controversial topics."
October 3rd: Dr. Gina Garcia Lecture Visit
Time: 9AM - 10:30AM.
Location: St. Cajetan's Event Center
"This will be a public lecture about issues of equity and justice in higher education with an emphasis on three core areas: Hispanic Serving Institutions, Latinx college students, and race and racism in higher education. Join us in exploring the ways that HSIs are re-framing what it means to serve Latinx college students."
October 23rd: Dr. Ricardo Carrillo "La Cultura Todavía Cura: The Culture Still Heals"
Time: 11AM - 12:30AM followed by a discussion from 2PM - 3:30PM.
Location: St. Cajetan's Event Center
"Dr. Carrillo, a Clinical Psychologist and Curandero, will be speaking about integrating the philosophy of traditional medicine with western medicine. There will also be a plática/talking circles, which will entail a heart-to-heart conversation around healing with healers in the community."
De-mystifying Mental Health in Light of Intersecting Identities
Date: Tuesday, September 24, 2019
Location: Discovery Wall at Auraria Library
“Join us in exploring how our various intersecting identities can shape the way we view mental health and how stigma can be a barrier to seeking mental health supports and services.”
Split Stories Event
Date: September 9th, 2019 and the following first Wednesdays of every month
Location: Student Commons Room 2000 (CU Denver)
Lunch will be provided.
Split Stories is a space for students, staff and faculty who identify with more than one race, ethnicity, culture, nationality or heritage. This group challenges society's single box categories intends to create a safe space for dialogue, establish community, and find solidarity in shared experiences.
