It has been quite an exciting season! Before we ring in the new year, check out some of the highlights of what our Accounting Roadrunner Community has been up to this past Fall ’25 term.

Back in August 2025, we kicked off the fall term with two welcome events!

Our New Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc) Student Orientation was a lively event, bringing together 20+ new MPAcc students. Later that week, our Accounting Student Organization (ASO) leadership team tabled at the CMEI’s Rowdy Rally, welcoming and connecting with hundreds of new MSU Denver students and their families.

What better way to get plugged into the Accounting Roadrunner Community than by meeting current students, alumni, faculty, and ASO leaders before the first day of school?!

Our Fall ’25 “Accounting Profession Debunked” virtual event series was all about breaking down common misconceptions about the accounting field. We hosted four virtual sessions that dove into the realities of the profession, spotlighting the wide-ranging roles and paths available to today’s accountants. Thanks to our featured faculty, alumni, current students, and local accounting professionals who made these interactive sessions possible, you can check out a recording of the speaker portions below!

Our ASO and Accounting Department virtual events had record levels of engagement. Attendance at ASO meetings exceeded the classroom’s capacity from the very first meeting, and continued to draw 20-30 students each week. The first session of our “Accounting Profession Debunked” virtual event series was our largest virtual event yet, bringing together 48 participants in a Zoom room the Friday before a long holiday weekend. We loved seeing this momentum continue throughout all 13 ASO fall term meetings, another record-breaking Meet the Firms event, and all of our virtual accounting events!

It was another active recruitment season as we tabled across campus, attended external fairs, visited our undergraduate classes, and hosted virtual info sessions about our graduate accounting programs. With 3 application cycles each year, we are always looking to connect with prospective applicants. Check out more about our graduate accounting programs today!

Our Department of Accounting decided to try something new in 2026 by participating in the 14’er Project. Along with the Department of Economics, all of our undergraduate and graduate accounting courses in the Spring ’26 term will be modified, shortening the traditional length of our classes from 16 to 14 weeks. This will give students more flexibility while maintaining the same quality learning experience. We are looking forward to being part of this MSU Denver pilot program and hearing how this will be received by spring enrolled students!

Accounting alum Chucky Moss was featured in an episode of the MSU Denver Alumni BirdTalk podcast. Hear his story and insights in the full episode, before he took to the Fall 2025 Commencement Ceremony stage as our keynote speaker.

The Risk Assurance and Advisory (RAA) Center knocked it out of the park this term! Three MPAcc student internal auditors presented the results of a semester-long internal audit and data analytics project to MSU Denver senior leaders. The RAA Center hosted it’s first education event, bringing together experts in forensic accounting, cybersecurity, and internal audit strategy. What great experiential learning and networking opportunities for our students!

In addition to teaching, our faculty kept busy outside the classroom presenting and publishing their research. An exciting highlight this term is that three publications include MPAcc student and alumni co-authors. What an awesome opportunity and fantastic achievement! Check out 7 recent publications here.

We honored our departmental outstanding student award recipients at the Fall 2025 College of Business Outstanding Student Awards ceremony. It was a wonderful night to celebrate all of our College of Business winners along with their family and friends!

December 2025 marked the retirement of 2 exceptional faculty and active campus leaders. They will be greatly missed, but always part of our Accounting Roadrunner Community!

Dr. Ann Murphy – 27 years of service at MSU Denver, including 14 years as the prior Dean of the College of Business.

Jim Murphy – 15.5 years of teaching 100+ accounting classes at MSU Denver, prior ASO faculty advisor, and proud MSU Denver alum (Accounting & Computer Information Systems).

Of course no term recap is complete without including a mention to the highly anticipated graduation season! From our MBA & MPAcc Hooding Celebration Thursday evening to a packed Colorado Convention Center Friday morning at the Fall 2025 MSU Denver Commencement Ceremony, it was such a blast to celebrate this awesome achievement with our graduates and their families. Check out our photo recap!

As we reflect on the many activities of this past fall term, it has clearly been a busy season for our entire Accounting Roadrunner Community. Thank you to all who made it such an impactful term for our students!
