Q&A with Kaley
What does a typical day look like for you during the semester?
It kind of changes semester to semester. I really love MSU Denver’s flexibility with class schedules. This semester, I’m a senior, and I only have one class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I come to school about midday. I wake up, I get homework done in the morning, and then I come to class, and then afterwards I go back home and do homework. Or I have so much flexibility to be able to go to work. That’s also, I love MSU because I can also do school and go to work at the same time, and it’s really awesome. So it’s kind of a typical day for me.
What has your journey at MSU Denver been like?
My journey has been absolutely awesome. I am a transfer student from an out of state college where I felt really out of place and just felt like I needed to come home. MSU is my home. I go to school with one of my best friends ever. We happened to transfer at the same time and it’s just been a super cool journey to go on.
What are you passionate about within business?
I love that business is how the world goes around, so I feel like I can help better connect to my world through business, especially being a creative individual in marketing. I love to create do a lot of photoshop design. I was originally a design major, then entrepreneurship, and now I’m in marketing and I absolutely love it here. It combines all those elements and it’s just something I’m really passionate about.
What are your future career plans?
I really want to do something in sports marketing, or I’m taking a branding course right now that I really love, and I love all things brand elements, design, things like that. So probably something that field.
What clubs, organizations, or events have you enjoyed the most at MSU Denver?
I really love the speaker panels. I think it’s so fun to be able to not only connect with my peers on a common subject, but also be able to have industry leaders that I get to meet. And we have some really, really cool people come to campus. So it’s really fun to see their thoughts on things in the business world.
What advice would you give to new business students?
I would say that you’re not alone and everything’s going to work out fine. Use your resources. The staff is genuinely here for you. I have so many awesome faculty relationships and they are just really, really great people who not only say they want you to succeed, they show it, and they will put in the maximum effort to make sure that you are connected with the right resources.
What’s something that you wish you knew before you started college?
Just because you don’t know what you’re doing. Going in doesn’t mean that you won’t know what you’re doing. Coming out. I switched my major three times and I found my home! Marketing is my home. And so just because you feel like you don’t have it, figure it out all at the beginning, you will be on your right path by the end, I promise.
What’s your favorite thing about being part of the College of Business at MSU Denver?
The part of being a CBUS student I love most is the sense of community and support from both peers and professors. I’ve found lasting friendships within the program and have learned from incredible professors who genuinely care about my growth by offering advice, answering my questions, and helping me connect with the right resources on campus.
