Q&A with Amanda
What does a typical day look like for you during the semester?
Usually, I wake up and come straight to school. I have classes everyday of the week, so I’m really here all the time. I go straight to work after school, and then I go home and do my homework. The next day I do it all over again!
What has your journey at MSU Denver been like?
It’s been pretty typical, I would say. I’ve taken a lot of classes, taken the opportunities that I’ve been given, and I’ve worked really hard to try to take advantage of everything that MSU Denver offers. I have really just been here to learn.
What are you passionate about within business?
I really like the creative aspect and that’s why I’m focusing on marketing for my degree. Being able to have your ideas but implement them in an effective and beneficial way to the community is something that really interests me.
What are your future career plans?
I don’t really know what my future looks like, but I’m hoping to work for a sports marketing agency, something that keeps me local to Denver. I’ve lived here my entire life, so I really want to find a job where I can stay here with my friends and my family.
What clubs, organizations, or events have you enjoyed the most at MSU Denver?
I think my favorite event has been Welcome Week. I go every year and I find it a great way to meet new people. I always bring friends from classes. Its a good way to start the semester strong by getting to know new people in your classes.
What advice would you give to new business students?
Take all the opportunities that you can. The school is here to help you. They’re one of the best universities at finding you a job right after school. There’s a lot of career fairs and the professors bring in a lot of guest speakers, which is a really good way to network, get to know people, and learn more about what you want to do in your life.
What’s something that you wish you knew before you started college?
I wish I knew that everything happens for a reason. That just because something didn’t go your way, you didn’t get the job you wanted or you didn’t get into the club you wanted, that everything happens for a reason. It’s all going to work out in the end because what you’re destined to do in your life doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is going to go exactly how you want it to.
What’s your favorite thing about being part of the College of Business at MSU Denver?
I love the atmosphere that it creates and the opportunities it presents. Everyone I have met through CBUS classes or events have had something in common with me. It has made building connections while exploring interests, passions, and future plans much easier for me. I feel like I have a solid understanding of what I want to do with my life because of the networking and skill building events that are hosted by CBUS.
