The Metropolitan State University of Denver Staff Senate, led by President Rebecca Reid, convened Oct. 11 for its monthly meeting, where members shared committee reports and announcements.

Faculty Senate President Elizabeth Goodnick, Ph.D., and Vice President Jessica Weiss, Ph.D., presented to the Staff Senate during the meeting to discuss Faculty Senate structure and how the two senates can work together to better MSU Denver.
Committee updates
Budget Task Force
- A Budget Recommendation Committee meeting is scheduled Friday from 10 a.m.-noon.
Senate Policy Review Committee
- Sen. Brian Gunther said he and Sen. Katie Joyce are now co-chairs of the committee and that other new members have been added.
- The committee is setting a goal of making policy-changing processes more accessible for staff and administrative employees, potentially through a policymaking guide.

Communication Committee
- A recent Early Bird article detailed how everyone can be involved in the Staff Senate.
- The link to join the Staff Senate has been changed, causing some links to be incorrect. Here is a correct link to join the next Staff Senate meeting Nov. 8.
Elections Committee
- The Ad Hoc Taskforce Committee meets once a month and has already held a meeting to focus on Staff Senate structure.
- If any changes should be made to the current structure, the committee plans to have a proposal ready to discuss by December and be voted on by January.
Recognition and Scholarships Committee
- Roadrunners Who Soar nominations are now open.
Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
- The group is finalizing meeting resources to share with the Staff Senate and applying for funds to hold a “Me and My White Supremacy” book club.
- The annual Employee Wellness Fair is Friday, and employees can register to receive free comprehensive health screens and flu shots.
- Health care open enrollment runs from Nov. 1 through Nov. 18. There will be more information in the Early Bird.

- The Department of Music, with support from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, hosted the Third Annual Umoja Conference: Music, Race and Social Justice Visiting Artist Series on Thursday.
