Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion has secured funds to support four faculty members to participate in the Summer 2024 Faculty Success Program. This 10-week online program is designed to support tenure-system faculty members with the goals of increasing research and writing productivity, gaining control of their time and balancing personal and professional responsibilities.

The Faculty Success Program is the most robust and practical support for faculty members from the NCFDD (formerly the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity), with procedures intentionally designed to connect faculty members from underrepresented groups to a broader community of scholars.

Participants will be provided:

  • One-on-one private coaching sessions with an NCFDD-certified coach.
  • Weekly training in empirically tested skills, strategies and practices that will help to align time and spark productivity.
  • Weekly accountability calls led by an NCFDD-certified coach in which participants will set goals and be held accountable for meeting those goals.
  • A supportive community and the opportunity to interact with other program participants, ask questions, get feedback, share resources and exchange ideas with peers.
  • Time-tracking using the custom WriteNow platform designed specifically for the Faculty Success Program to collect data about writing and research productivity.

Time commitment

Participants should anticipate spending roughly two hours each week watching training videos and completing homework assignments, plus a weekly 75-minute session with their small group and coach.

Application deadline

The application due date is Thursday, and selected faculty members will be notified by Monday. Though all tenured/tenure-track faculty members can apply, tenure-track faculty members will be prioritized. Upon successful completion of the program, each faculty member will be required to provide a brief (one-page) description of how the experience impacted their professional development.

What past participants are saying

Dorothy L. Shapland Rodriguez, Ed.D., associate professor of Early Childhood Education:

“Through the process of creating a strategic plan, reviewing it with a mentor and then structuring time to work on the goals in that plan, I found my time more focused and felt more in control as a result. The process of analyzing my daily and weekly time use allowed me to see where I was missing opportunities to relax and reward myself for the hard work I accomplished. Holding weekly planning sessions with myself enabled me to schedule time for scholarly work and keep those times sacred on my calendar, as well as to build daily habits of writing. Attending to my sleep and addressing my perfectionism and procrastination have helped me to be healthier and better able to tackle daily challenges in my work.”

Paris Theresa Prestridge, D.N., assistant professor of Health Professions:

“I am grateful to have been able to participate in a course that understood what is important to me as a tenuretrack faculty member and as an individual with personal goals outside of my professional responsibilities. I would unequivocally recommend this course for anyone that would benefit from learning more about how to set attainable scholarship goals, establish a schedule, focus on self-care and cultivate lasting relationships with faculty members from across the country.”
