At the College of Business (CBUS), we are committed to connecting students, faculty, and the community through impactful, skills-based programs. Our ongoing partnership with Mi Casa Resource Center (Mi Casa) is a shining example of this mission in action.

Mi Casa is a Colorado nonprofit that has dedicated 50 years to advancing the economic success of Denver Metro families by providing training, coaching, and wraparound support to job seekers and small business owners who face barriers to opportunity. In 2022, Mi Casa received a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration to develop a career-connected learning program focused on Human Resource Management essentials.

In partnership with our Management Department faculty Bill Carnes, Maria Quijada, Eric Blomfelt, and Apryl Brodersen, as well as Mi Casa Resource Center (Mi Casa), they developed an Introduction to HR course for Mi Casa trainers to deliver to their clients. The course provides a comprehensive overview of workplace HR practices and prepares participants for entry-level HR positions.

Program Highlights

  • Digital recognition: Graduates earn a digital badge from MSU Denver that is highlighted on their LinkedIn page, showcasing their HR knowledge and skills. To date, over 200 Mi Casa clients have received this badge.

  • College credit: Participants have the opportunity to earn credit for MGT 1260: Foundations of HR through the Prior Learning Assessment process. So far, 7 participants have successfully earned college credit.

  • Program reach: 210 participants have enrolled in the program, with 163 successfully completing the training, demonstrating the impact and demand for career-focused learning.

This partnership benefits everyone involved: CBUS faculty share their expertise, Mi Casa clients gain skills and credentials to advance their careers, and students have a chance to see real-world applications of HR concepts. Together, CBUS and Mi Casa are creating meaningful pathways to professional success and economic empowerment in the Denver community.
