At the College of Business (CBUS), we are committed to connecting students, faculty, and the community through impactful, skills-based programs. Our ongoing partnership with Mi Casa Resource Center (MCRC) is a shining example of this mission in action.

MCRC is a Colorado nonprofit dedicated to advancing the economic success of Denver families by providing training, coaching, and wrap-around support to jobseekers who face barriers to opportunity. In 2022, MCRC received a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration to develop a career-connected learning program focused on Human Resource Management essentials.

Faculty from the Department of Management, Eric Blomfelt, Apryl Brodersen, Bill Carnes, and Maria Quijada, collaborated with MCRC to create an Introduction to HR course for MCRC trainers to teach to their clients. The course provides a comprehensive survey of HR practices found in the workplace, preparing participants for entry-level HR positions.

Program Highlights

  • Digital recognition: Completes earn a digital badge from MSU Denver, showcasing their HR knowledge and skills. To date, over 200 Mi Casa clients have received this badge.

  • College credit: Participants have the opportunity to earn credit for MGT 1260: Foundations of HR through the Prior Learning Assessment process. So far, 7 participants have successfully earned college credit.

  • Program reach: 210 participants have enrolled in the program, with 163 successfully completing the training, demonstrating the impact and demand for career-focused learning.

This partnership benefits everyone involved: CBUS faculty share their expertise, Mi Casa clients gain skills and credentials to advance their careers, and students have a chance to see real-world applications of HR concepts. Together, CBUS and Mi Casa are creating meaningful pathways to professional success and economic empowerment in the Denver community.
