How Accelerated Online Classes Work

Accelerated classes cover the same content and are the same MSU Denver courses taught by our faculty with the same outcomes. The schedule is compressed so you stay focused and finish sooner.

Winterim courses require a daily commitment and run for two weeks. Eight-week courses begin either at the start of the term or mid-semester.

Condensed does not mean easier, but it does help you get your general education classes out of the way and fit your busy schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do accelerated online courses count toward my degree?
Yes. These are MSU Denver courses for official credit that appear on your MSU Denver transcript.

How do the 2-week Winterim and 8-week sessions work?
Same course, condensed timeline. Winterim moves daily for two weeks. Eight-week sessions follow a steady weekly rhythm so you can focus and finish sooner.

Is the coursework as rigorous as a regular semester?
Yes. Same faculty, outcomes, and assessments. The format is accelerated, not reduced.

Will my credits transfer to another university?
Your credits are recorded on an official MSU Denver transcript. MSU Denver is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and our accelerated courses meet the same standards as full-term classes. Transfer decisions are made by the receiving university.

Who teaches MSU Denver’s accelerated online classes?
MSU Denver faculty teach all online courses. We do not outsource instruction.

Can I take these if my major is not an online major?
Yes. Eligible MSU Denver students in any major can register.

Can I get the Online Learning Scholarship for these classes?
Sometimes. Eligibility depends on how many credits you take in a semester and whether you are in a fully online major. See details on the Online Learning Scholarship page.

How do I register for an accelerated online course?
Current students add the CRN in the Registration Portal.
