Hi! I’m Urvi, a Business Intelligence major who genuinely enjoys solving business problems with data and learning how technology can make everyday decisions better. I was born and raised in New Delhi, India, and moving to the U.S. has been one of the biggest and most rewarding learning experiences of my life. Outside of classes, you’ll usually find me recording my vocals because singing has always been a huge part of who I am. I also love swimming; there’s something about being in the water, especially when there’s sunshine, sand, and an endless view of the ocean, that makes me feel completely at peace. Lately, I’ve also been teaching myself to bake, and I’m pretty proud of my fudgy brownies and buttery croissants!

Q&A with Urvi

What does a typical day look like for you during the semester?
A typical day for me is always busy, and I honestly enjoy it that way. Most days start with classes or meetings for the Urban Leadership Program or student organizations. I also work as a CIS tutor at the Tutoring Center, where I get to teach, mentor, and learn from students every day. Outside of class, I’m usually working on my undergraduate research, finishing assignments, or attending networking events (probably my favorite part of college). I’m a very outgoing person, and I genuinely enjoy meeting new people, listening to their stories, and learning from their experiences. I also love connecting with professors and professionals because every conversation teaches me something new. When I’m not on campus, you’ll probably find me working out, exploring a new coffee shop, or spending time with friends.

What brought you to MSU Denver?
I actually only applied to one university, MSU Denver. People are usually surprised when I tell them that, but I just had a feeling it was the right place for me. My dad moved to the U.S. years before my mom and I did, and once we were finally here, I knew I wanted to continue my education in Denver. There was something about MSU that just felt right. I remember thinking, “I don’t know why, but I think this place is going to surprise me.” And it did. Looking back, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to grow, challenge myself, and become the person I am today.

What area of business are you most passionate about?
I’m passionate about Business Intelligence because I’ve always wondered how businesses make important decisions. How do they know if they’re growing? How do they identify problems before they become bigger issues? That’s where data comes in. I love taking raw data and turning it into dashboards and visualizations that make information easy to understand. To me, data isn’t just numbers on a spreadsheet; it’s a story waiting to be told. The idea that something I build could help someone make a smarter business decision is what makes this field so exciting. I’m also really interested in how AI can make that process even more powerful and accessible.

What’s your favorite College of Business memory so far?
My favorite part of the College of Business has honestly been getting to know the professors and faculty. They don’t just teach, they genuinely care about their students and want to see them succeed. They’ve always been approachable, encouraging, and willing to take the time to guide me, whether it’s about academics, research, internships, or career advice. The support and opportunities they’ve provided have played a huge role in my growth, and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for.

What’s one piece of advice for new students? And/or what’s something you wish you knew before college?
Say yes to opportunities, even if they seem intimidating at first. I used to think I needed to have everything figured out before applying for internships, joining organizations, or talking to professionals, but that’s not true. Growth happens when you’re willing to learn. Also, don’t underestimate the value of building relationships. The people you meet in college your classmates, professors, mentors, and friends- can have a lasting impact on your journey.
