Meet Nick Russo!

Hi! My name is Nick, I am majoring in Professional Selling at MSU Denver.

Q&A with Nick

What does a typical day look like for you during the semester?
So I’ll typically get up at 8 a.m. I’ll go ahead and get a workout in before I come to campus. I’ve got 1 to 2 classes in a given day. After that, I will be going to my Pi Sigma Epsilon meeting, and then after that, I’ve got lacrosse practice.

What has your journey at MSU Denver been like?
I would say it’s been enlightening. I’ve met a lot of people that I didn’t think I’d meet in my life, and honestly, it’s been an eye-opening experience. I’ve met a lot of people with different perspectives, and that’s really helpful in order to give you a leg up in your career. You know, whether it be going into business, mechanical engineering, or anything like that, it’s important to get as many diverse perspectives on life and different topics as you can because that helps you develop.

What are you passionate about within business?
I’m passionate about helping people. I feel like sales is just an exercise in learning the best way to present a solution to someone, and in doing so, you get a chance to build meaningful relationships with people. That’s really what I’m passionate about.

What are your future career plans?
I’m hoping to get into sales. That’s the whole reason I’m getting a professional selling degree. In doing so, I hope to help as many people as possible.

What clubs, organizations, or events have you enjoyed the most at MSU Denver?

I’ve really enjoyed Pi Sigma Epsilon. We’re a growing chapter here at MSU Denver. I’ve also enjoyed club lacrosse, and another event I really enjoyed was the sales competition hosted by the Sales Center here at MSU Denver. That was a great experience.

What advice would you give to new business students?
You don’t have to have it all figured out when walking in the door. Just expose yourself to as many different career options as you can. There’s something out there for you, and you just have to find it.

What’s something that you wish you knew before you started college?
Make the most of it. You have the opportunity, especially here at MSU Denver, being a commuter campus. You can either just show up to your classes and go home, or you can try to find something that gives you a home. I’m thankful to be somewhat decent at lacrosse, so I can play with the lacrosse team. I also found Pi Sigma Epsilon, which has been a really great experience. Make the most of it. College is a learning experience. The more you learn while you’re in college, the better off you’ll be. That learning doesn’t have to come just from classes. It can come from the people around you and the different things you do in college. Make the most of it.

What’s your favorite thing about being part of the College of Business at MSU Denver?

How much the faculty care about you. They really want to see you succeed. I’ve had a couple of great professors here. Honestly, I can’t say a bad thing about a single professor I’ve had, but some of them have gone above and beyond to make sure I know that I can do this.
