Q&A with Madison
What does a typical day look like for you during the semester?
A typical day would be getting up early. Usually, I like to get up around six-ish, and then either go for a walk or work out, come to school, and then go to my full-time job as a Marketing Director for a restaurant company.
What has your journey at MSU Denver been like?
It’s been different than most. I actually just came here last semester, so I’ve only been here for a year, coming from a different university, but it’s been the most amazing experience. I honestly am so grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to come here, and I’m thankful every day that I get to be in the business program.
What are you passionate about within business?
I’m passionate about reaching more people. I feel like marketing is one of those ways where you can talk with others, show them, and share things. It’s the ability to reach other people, whether it’s in a multicultural unit or in liquor and sales. You have the ability to branch out to all different kinds of people.
What are your future career plans?
My future career plans would be to be a lead Marketing Director, hopefully somewhere I really love, like the multicultural unit. I’ve worked on lots of things, as well as in hospitality, which is what I’ve been working in all four years of college. So something in that realm.
What clubs, organizations, or events have you enjoyed the most at MSU Denver?
My favorite events have definitely been anything in professional selling. Being able to be a part of Clay Autry’s class was fantastic. We did a whole bunch of group meetings and even got to do an actual sales role play ourselves. That was something that taught me real, hands-on experience, and then meeting with Enterprise and doing an interview was awesome. Things like that have been great.
What advice would you give to new business students?
Honestly, some advice is just to take it as it comes. Everyone’s on a different path, so don’t feel stressed out. If you feel like you’re behind or that things aren’t working out, you will find your way, no matter what. Everyone’s on their own path, so just believe in yourself and trust that whatever happens is going to be the best for you.
What’s something that you wish you knew before you started college?
Something I wish I knew is how important it is to make such great friends who will be with you all the way through. The people I’ve met at MSU Denver are truly some of my best friends right now. And honestly, enjoy every minute, because one day you’re going to have to wake up and no longer be in school and have a real job. So, just enjoy it while you can.
What’s your favorite thing about being part of the College of Business at MSU Denver?
Honestly, the people that I’ve gotten to meet, whether it’s faculty, staff, or real-world professionals from all different walks of life, have been fantastic. It has truly helped put my foot in the door to become something greater once I graduate.
