Hi! My name is Giovanna Paz. I am currently a Marketing student here at MSU Denver. I was born and raised in Guatemala City but I’ve been living here in Denver for 8 years.

Q&A with Giovanna

What does a typical day look like for you during the semester?
A typical day during the school year for me is waking up early for my usual morning classes as I think early days are the most productive. After class I usually go to the MSU REC center to work out. After that I like to go to the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion to have lunch with my friends for a chat or try to get some studying and homework done.

What brought you to MSU Denver?
What brought me to MSU Denver was that I wanted a community where it was close to home. I mean yeah, 13 min from my house, literally. But what I mean being close to home is being able to see so much diversity among students, coming from a shared struggle, same ideas, and same ambitions & dreams.

What area of business are you most passionate about?
Something about business that I am passionate about is how it is so universal. Talking specifically about Marketing, I think marketing and advertising is everywhere I go, and it’s interesting how consumers react to it even without realizing it.

What’s your favorite College of Business memory so far?
I don’t really have a specific memory, but I have met incredible people in the College of business, such as students and professors that I really look up to and have influenced me to step out and believe in myself!

What’s one piece of advice for new students? And/or what’s something you wish you knew before college?
One piece of advice that I wish I knew before I started college, it’s to not be afraid to reach out for support. I think people like to push the idea that you have to have your own support system, and yes, it is true. But now looking back at my first year of college you really find yourself being alone in a sea of opportunities that everyone is just expecting you for you to hold onto. And yes, this is a great thing, but it is super overwhelming at the same time when it’s only you that has your back. That’s why I found comfort in finding students/faculty that could uplift me as a student and a person. So, try to be less afraid.
