Teaching Interests
Simply put, what journalists do matters. The need has never been greater for a vibrant and vigilant press. Together, my students and I learn to illuminate the human condition. We do original work. We practice the art of recording critical moments in both words and images. We discover that sources are important. We learn humility, to stay small so our subjects can be big. We come to understand that journalism will not change the world, but might possibly give the world a reason to change. It’s a noble calling. Classes taught:
Beginning Reporting, Feature Article Writing/Magazines, Internship: Public Relations, Introduction to Journalism and Mass Media, Social Documentary, Making a Documentary Film and Beginning Editing, Ethical and Legal Issue (Senior Experience, Capstone class) and most recently, Drone Journalism.
