Research Interests
My research is focused on children from vulnerable populations who have been displaced, disrupted, abused or who have otherwise experienced trauma. My research interest in child welfare stems from fourteen years of practice experience working with children, youth, and adults who are affected by abuse and neglect. These experiences have informed both my teaching and research. My experiences as a clinician and administrator have influenced my research agenda and have fueled a desire to ensure that my research is relevant to practitioners. My orienting research question has been to investigate how vulnerable children approach their performance of everyday life and orient themselves toward their possible futures.
Teaching Interests
I teach students to become excellent critical thinkers, kind and effective practitioners, and leaders in our community. I teach classes related to research in Social Work, working in the child welfare system (both within the USA and abroad) and Social Work practice.
