Bio

Dr. Strathearn holds a BS in Communications from Rochester Institute of Technology, a BA in Ethnic Literature (IDP) from Metro and an MA and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in English. Currently, Lecturer in the Gender, Women's and Sexualities Studies (GITA) and affiliate faculty in the Department of Africana Studies.

Research Interests

Her research interests include Gullah Studies, Gullah Womanism and Black Feminism, and narrative strategies of Black women writers of the Diaspora. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in experiential education as a methodology to increase African Diaspora cultural knowledge and community contributions and multidisciplinary pedagogical strategies for online learning.

African American literature, culture, and folklore. Gullah studies. Narratives of enslavement.
