Bio

Joe Mahoney is an assistant professor of journalism at MSUD. His career started at the Associated Press and continued at a newspaper, then a television station, leading to a digital startup in from 2020 to 2022.

He was part of the photo teams at the Rocky Mountain News that won Pulitzer Prizes in 2000 and 2003. In 2009, he was an associate producer for "Final Edition" that won a regional Emmy for Topical Documentary. He helped found a non-profit news start-up that merged with Denver’s PBS affiliate.

He an assistant professor of journalism at Metro State University.

Teaching Interests

Mastering a subject is a matter of building one's knowledge through internalizing basic concepts, connecting them and expanding on them. (Beware of shortcuts.) While one may be able to leapfrog over some basic principles into more advanced areas, skipping the fundamentals will likely cause problems later.
