Bio

Dr. Jeff Loats is Professor of Physics and Director of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Dr. Loats earned his Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics at Oregon State University where he studied the gamma vibrational bands of 166-Er using angular correlation measurements from the β-decay of 166m-Ho and 166-Tm.

Research Interests

In recent years Dr. Loats has focused his scholarly efforts on the application of research-based instructional strategies to teaching in higher education.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Loats is passionate about scholarly teaching (that is, teaching with attention to the scholarship of teaching and learning). Topics such as active engagement, Just-in-Time Teaching, Peer Instruction, inclusive teaching and student-centered learning (broadly) are among his specific interests.
