Research Interests
Dr. Liz is an awardee of a CSWE grant to coordinate a HEALS project, offering scholarships for social work in health care to students in MSU Denver’s Department of Social Work. She is also a SEED leader for the National SEED Project on inclusive Curriculum and her recent projects include community collaborations with community clinics and local high schools. She presented her research on resilience among the undocumented Latino immigrant community at Dalhousie University’s Pathway to Resilience III Conference “Beyond Nature vs. Nurture” in Halifax, Canada this summer. She will be presenting her research on leadership and cultural diversity at CSWE in October.
Dr. Mendez-Shannon research interests focus on factors among vulnerable communities. Currently, she is working with grants related to health care initiatives, refugee/immigrant issues and mentorship for students of color.
