The Early Bird needs more faculty and student-employee nominees for the Roadrunner Shoutout of the Week series. Please take a moment to share your gratitude and nominate employees who are going above and beyond to uphold the University’s CADRE values. 

To nominate outstanding employees for the Roadrunner Shoutout of the Week award, please complete the form on the Roadrunner Shoutout of the Week webpage. Tell us how your nominee is making an impact through great teaching, service to students or innovation. Winners will be selected each week and profiled in the Early Bird on Thursdays. Winners will also get a shoutout on social media.

To help Provost Alfred Tatum, Ph.D., advocate for Roadrunners, all MSU Denver faculty members, staff members and administrators are invited to share what’s on their mind in Talks With Tatum on Tuesday. The weekly open forum provides employees with the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with Tatum. The informal events will be held virtually, and employees can drop in and out as needed.

Future Roadrunners will have the $25 undergraduate-and-graduate application fee waived next week in honor of the second annual Free Application Days event at Metropolitan State University of Denver. In addition to the fall statewide free-application period, MSU Denver hosts a University-specific free-application event to better serve aspiring scholars. 

 

Register by March 21 

Faculty and staff members are encouraged to register to volunteer as marshals for the spring Commencement ceremony May 13 at Denver Coliseum. All marshals are required to reserve regalia or wear the regalia of their alma mater. 

To reserve regalia, click here and enter “Metropolitan” in the search bar. “Metropolitan State University of Denver” will appear, and you can follow instructions to complete your order. Regalia are free for all faculty and staff members who order through the link above, and you will be able to pick up items on campus or in the assembly area on Commencement day.

The Department of Human Performance and Sport is hosting the fifth annual Women in Sport Management Panel and Networking Event on Wednesday. This event coincides with National Girls and Women in Sport Day, an annual day of observance to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, recognize the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honor the progress and continuing struggle for equality for women in sports.

Hosted by the Denver Project for Humanistic Inquiry

Panelists Samantha Cohoe and Jenny Elder Moke will discuss the craft and business of writing, from that shiny new idea to seeing your book on shelves for the first time. The authors will discuss their recent novels and will share key steps in their processes that are essential to starting the journey, staying on the path through the murky middle and celebrating hard-earned publishing victories.

With the past two years being physically and emotionally challenging, MSU Denver employees created Circle of Solace as a space for fellow faculty and staff members to gather and learn about the grief process.

Body Sculpt Thems/Fems/Mens is a 60-minute, gender-affirming, full-body workout series. The series includes four classes per week, each offering two workouts: one targeted at developing a more feminine physique and one more targeted at building a masculine frame. Participants can choose which workout suits them best. All fitness levels are welcome. Each workout can be modified to fit anyone. Come get your sweat on in a comfortable, safe space with Bailey McCoy (they/them) as your instructor. To register, please visit this link.

Untold Stories of Rachel Noel: Film and Panel Discussion

The Rachel B. Noel Distinguished Visiting Professorship was initiated in 1981 to foster multiculturalism, diversity and academic excellence at MSU Denver. The professorship brings renowned scholars and artists of distinction to MSU Denver to conduct classes, seminars, performances and lectures for students, faculty members and the larger Denver population.  

Calvin Mackie is an inventor, entrepreneur, author and former engineering professor who founded STEM NOLA, a nonprofit in New Orleans that has engaged more than 70,000 K-12 students in STEM activities.  

A community reception is March 8, and a campus keynote will be presented March 9.  

The theme is “Stronger STEM, Stronger Society.”
