Robert Preuhs, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Political Science Department 

Preuhs, along with co-authors from the University of Texas San Antonio, published the peer-reviewed article “Spanish vs. English Language Media Consumption and Latino Political Trust and Efficacy” in the journal Political Communication.

School of Hospitality brings in three awards 

Three School of Hospitality representatives earned awards at the Rocky Mountain Professional Convention Management Association (one of the largest professional associations): 

  • New Member of the Year Award – Godwin-Charles Ogbeide, Ph.D., professor and director of Day Leadership Academy 
  • Rising Star Award – Sheena Ortiz, recruitment and retention specialist 
  • Award of Dedication Student Member – Alexis Boehm  

Faculty director named president-elect of fellowship society 

Kristy Duran, Ph.D., faculty director of Undergraduate Research and professor of Biology, has been named president-elect of the Society of Senior Ford Fellows, an organization that aims to contribute to conversations of all levels working toward “attainment of social justice, equity and the advancement of intellectual rigor and democratic values” for all. 

Mock trial brings home two awards 

MSU Denver’s Mock Trial team competed in the American Mock Trial Association Colorado Regionals in Colorado Springs. Student Lara Widger won a Best Witness award and the team won the “Spirit of AMTA” award for exhibiting the ideals of civility, justice and fair play. 

Cybersecurity student wins national competition 

Jessica McNary, a Cybersecurity major and Teacher Assistant, entered and won a national cybersecurity competition funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. McNary will receive a $6,000 dollar stipend and an all-expenses paid 10-week trip to attend a foreign language immersion bootcamp.
