The MSU Denver Alumni Association is proud to release a new episode of its podcast BirdTalk, featuring alumnus and business leader Matt Maley (‘06), who shares the moving story behind the creation of the Matthew P. Campbell Scholarship.

In this candid conversation, Maley reflects on his journey from a non-traditional college student to a successful principal in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry—and how a powerful friendship with fellow Roadrunner Matt Campbell inspired him to give back. Created in honor of Campbell, who passed away in 2019, the scholarship supports MSU Denver students studying marketing and business development, connecting them to industry opportunities while preserving Campbell’s legacy.

“Matt was the kind of person who made everyone feel seen,” said Maley. “This scholarship is about more than money—it’s about helping students find a pathway into a profession that changed both of our lives.”

The episode also touches on Maley’s commitment to family, his passion for wrestling and jiu-jitsu, and the strong sense of community that defines the Roadrunner spirit.

BirdTalk is a podcast produced by the MSU Denver Alumni Association to highlight the stories, achievements, and impact of alumni across industries and generations.
